Hi all. Some time ago, I added the domain http://www.openwaterchicago.com to my blog - openwaterchicago.wordpress.com - using the domain mapping upgrade. I am now trying to transfer my wordpress.com blog over to a wordpress.org platform and I've run into a major headache.
I want to use the same domain name (www.openwaterchicago.com) for my wordpress.org site. So I canceled my domain mapping service with wordpress.com (it was set to expire in May 2010), and I redirected my domain name to the nameservers at Hostmonster, my new hosting vendor. I then set up the database and directory for openwaterchicago.com at Hostmonster and installed WordPress on that domain. When I tried to log into openwaterchicago.com/wp-admin, I got this message:
"Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please login and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain."
The problem is that even though openwaterchicago.com is no longer associated with my wordpress.com blog, there's still some linkage that's keeping me from using that domain name for my new wordpress.org site. In previous similar com-to-org transitions, I had no problem whatsoever in following this exact route.
So how do I get wordpress.com to fully release of my domain name?!?
The blog I need help with is openwaterchicago.wordpress.com.
