Domain purchase

  1. I would like to purchase a domain thru WordPress. It is currently an old never used before wordpress blog, not one single post, info, picture, nada

I know you urge people to give up domains if they are not using them - I appreciate your help!
    Blog url: http://chastudio.wordpress.com/

  2. WP.com staff will not contact the blogger on your behalf. You'll have to find that blogger somewhere and contact them. Why don't you just buy a custom domain and have whatever.com instead of whatever.wordpress.com?

  3. I do want to purchase the .com. Because the wordpress user still has the generic 'hi world! I just signed up with WP' on the site for a year - I wasn't even sure how to reach them. I would prefer .com over .net

  4. Thanks for the reply raincoaster : )

  5. Oh, you don't need the whatever.wordpress.com URL at all if you're getting a custom domain. The underlying domain doesn't matter at all!

  6. They are registered as a .com thru wordpress : (
Which sparked my curiosity since the site is dormant.

Blogs belong to those who registered them. There is no expiration date on blogs unused or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own then there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address. As far as acquiring the domain name goes you are on your own again when it comes to making contact with the owner. But as raincoasterr said if you purchase your own domain via a domain mapping upgrade then it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com subdomain URL is that you map from to the domain.

Also note that when a blog is deleted the .wordpress.com URL will not be recycled. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

  8. Thank you thistimethisspace!
I'll just have to wait & see - until then 2nd best it is.
