   Hi. I have been blogging on wordpress for a couple of years now and have just decided to purchase a domain name, to give the blog a more official title. So far I am going for the one year subscription, but was wondering, by owning my own domain will it mean I attract more visitors? Or is there something else I still need to do? As I do this as a hobby, I would prefer not to spend too much money on it, other than the domain subscription.

   Not advertising, just as a matter of referrence.

   No. That wholly depends on your content and/or your other efforts to attract visitors.

   It's important to understand that there is no such thing as passive blog promotion. If you wish to increase the organic (unpaid) traffic to your blog then you must act to make that happen.

   Owning your own domain will make it easier for people to remember your URL, so there is a positive effect there.

   Agreed. A domain name tends to give your website an aura of respectability, and having your own domain name is the first step towards building "brand credibility".

   If you get a domain name that describes your company’s business or name or products or services will make it more easily located in the SERPs (search engine page results), and also means your customers and clients will find it easier to remember.

   If you are not a business blogger then if you get a domain name that accurately reflects what you have to offer on your site that will make it more easily located in the SERPs (search engine page results), and also means your readers will find it easier to remember.

   When it comes to search engine ranking the keywords in the homepage (index) of a domain rank higher than any other pages.Consequently, if your blog is a subdomain (sub-page) under a free hosting website like wordpress.com, it’s hard take your page ranking to the top. Moving your blog onto your own domain means it’s more likely to be found and you can use some basic SEO to improve it's positioning.
