Doubt about Views

  1. Hi folks

Does the comments sent by email (as answer for a prior comment received) count as Total blog audience?

My blog has many email interactions and I´m not sure it´s being accounted.

I think each comment that is sent by email should count as a view, doesn´t?

The blog I need help with is tetzner.wordpress.com.

  2. someone please help?

  3. One is either logged into WordPress.com and clicks into a blog posts and creates a page view stat when they do that or they don't and there isn't one created.

Our stats are not real time stats. For details see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ and note the views and viewers take hours to update. Also note that those who follow your blog in the Reader or by email don't have to click into the blog unless they wish to.

Likes and shares and reblogs and follows are not page views. In fact, likes, shares and reblogs are completely misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com blog who is logged into WordPress.com can "follow" your blog, "like", "share" and "reblog" your posts in several locations such as the Reader, without ever clicking into your blog and creating a single page view stat.

Visitors using a mobile can read the full post without creating a page view stat. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpresscom-reader-show-full-text?replies=31#post-1373606

You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here > Settings > Reading. Choose the "summary" setting for your RSS feed rather than to "full text". That will compel followers who are not using mobiles to click into the blog to read the full post which will create a page view stat.

  4. The problem that I´m facing is:

people that follow blog by email, doesn´t really see the blog; access once to subscribe and got comments by email and keep updated

they don´t know or see if a page ou post was updated (because they didn´t access it)

so if I turn off comments by email, I should provide a way to keep following the comments

by RSS Comments, people can see the content posted and if they want reply, access the blog

each read at RSS comments gerate views in statisctics so I can follow the audience of my blog and see that people are reading the content

but they can´t easily answer it, and have to use a link, to open a browse outside the rss tool, then answer

does anyone faces the same problem?

I know, people are free to do what they want; but as content provider, I should have a way to demand a return in terms of hints/access/audience at least to know if people are really reading or dead....

  5. We all face the problem that Staff are deliberately bent on providing ways and means for others to read our posts and click a myriad of buttons without clicking into the actual post and reading it on the blog it was published on.

    1. I don't blog to provide anyone the ability to read my posts by email.

    2. I don't blog to provide WordPress.com with the ability to use my posts to create a magazine layout in the Reader for anyone who will not click into the blog and read it where it is published.

    • As I indicated above I set my RSS feed to summary here > Settings > Reading, and I deliberately insert the more tag into every post I publish. I provide only 55 word teaser followed by a read more tag and my copyright notice. Doing that means I spend less time apprehending content thieves and sending DMCA takedown notices to web hosts to get my posts removed from splogs.

    3. I think anyone who purchases an annually renewable custom design upgrade, knowing that readers do not need to click into the blog and see their customizations there is, in essence, flushing their money down the toilet every year.

I'm unhappy about this situation. I'll tag this thread for Staff responses to your questions. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they reply.

  6. Thanks!
Maybe if we could just set the email content of a comment as "full" or "resume" as it already exists for Feeds could solve this isso easily
    :)

  7. When you set the RSS Feed to summary here > Settings > Reading then all that goes out in the email is the summary not the full post.

  8. Really?? :D

I just set it to resume, let see how it works

I never noted it before; to me emails always comes with full text

and thank you soo much for your atention

  9. This "Resume" option isn´t working for either RSS comments and email

  10. This thread is tagged for a Staff response to your issue.

  11. Thanks thistimethisspace!

Staff, please could see this with some priority?

both, RSS Feeds fot comments and email comments aren´t being resumed

just the "header comment" it´s being resumed

  12. Apologies in advance if I've misunderstood your question. I think what you are asking is whether you can change comment notification emails to only show a "Summary" (or "Resume") of the comment.

That's actually not possible to change at WordPress.com. There is not a setting that will allow you to adjust whether the full text or summary of a comment is sent by email. The option timethief referred to earlier at Settings > Reading > For each article in a feed, show > "Summary" (or "Resume" is for the posts RSS feed, not comments.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you!

Regarding the issue you described where people can see the comments if they subscribe to comments by email but you don't see that referenced in the stats, that is not something we plan to change right away but I've made a note of your request and it will be considered as a possible update next time the developers work on the stats.

  13. designsimply,

no problem, but I would like to sugest a way to limit the text in comments too

it´s very frustrating see all work done in blog and people doesn´t seeing it because they stay only in their emails

I think thart it shoulb be a priority to wordpress, has their public accessing the web site, and not only their emails

    :)

  14. Thank you for the suggestion and the feedback. However, adding an option to truncate email comments is not likely to be an update we make.

I did forward your other suggestion to count comment email views in a stat, I think that's a really good suggestion.

  15. designsimply,

thanks a lot; it´ll be very welcome

about truncate email comments, it could be an option, as it now to show full or resume

I can choose to set the comment in full mode or a resume

otherwise, my blog will became an Yahoogroups or Googlegroups

people frequently ask by email things that are already writed in posts and pages

sorry to be boring you, but to me as blog owner it is very needed

I can´t control email subscription(manage emails), I can´t define how much people can see without access my blog, I can´t really know if I´m talking to the "Walking Deads"

Really, my motivation to keep the blog alive, it´s going away

I´m just starting and email group and requesting all users to join it; there I can have this management that here isn´t possible

sorry to throw this out over you, I really sad

  16. You are not boring me! However, I want to give you a realistic answer which is I don't think an option to truncate comment email is something we will add. I'm sorry it makes you sad!

Feedback is welcome, but we can't always take action on every feedback. My best advice for you at this point is to keep writing, and judge how successful your readership is by using the stats provided so far and by the number of comments. Those are the things available at this time.

  17. Is there a way to make sure that my "views" do not reflect my own views of my page? I couldn't find anything in the settings, but it looks to me as if every time I view something on my site, it is recorded, and I don't want that.

    Thanks.

Do not hijack threads and post off topic please. Start your own thread instead http://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

  20. I don't know what "hijacking a thread" is, but I THOUGHT this was a page to get help with confusion about my WordPress stats. It is getting harder and harder to get a real technician to respond to me when I have a problem, so I am thrown into this pool of forums. I'm doing the best I can to figure out how to get help, but the WP staff doesn't seem to be all that helpful lately.

  21. Try reading the support docs please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/
If you still have a question please post your own thread http://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

  22. @sctreblecleff, just make sure you're logged in as a user with admin rights when viewing your site and your views will not be counted.

Definitely check out the support docs too! We're always working to keep those updated so we can get you the answers you need there first whenever possible. Past that, try the contact form at http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ and make sure you follow all the instructions there when submitting a help request.
