Hi I want to replace my iweb website which features my assemblages & paintings. I want to be able to drag & drop new work photos into a redetermined size with rows of photos. Any recommendations for a theme?

That's not theme dependent: all wordpress.com themes support the gallery feature.

Default thumbnail size is set in Settings>Media.
And the image tool supports uploading images via drag&drop.
