Posting a YouTube video is simple enough; you just copy the url and add it in the video box beneath the visual editor. Are you sure your blog is hosted at WordPress.com, though? You mention plugins and we can't install those here, that only comes with the WP.org software. If you are self-hosted, you'll have to ask over at http://www.wordpress.org/support

I am able to post a youtube video, but I'm looking to actually save the video file.

That is functionality that wordpress.com will never provide. This is a blogging support forum.
I know that there are many facilities on the net for doing this and I suggest you google "save youtube video" or similar. Many results will return for you.
