When I view my published pages I see what looks like a live edit link. Does this mean that readers can edit my post? How can I disable this?

No, you are the only one that can see that, and then only when you are logged into your account. No one else can see it, and if you are logged out of your account, you would not see it either. It is a convenience just for you.
