Can you please tell me how to eliminate the 17 "Facebook: Amy Nora Doyle MacLeod" items down the right hand side of my window for writing posts? And the 17 "Refresh connect with Facebook".
What have I done (or not) that created these irritating lists? And how do I get rid of them?

Will you please take a screenshot and upload it to your Media Library where Staff can view it.

I hope the screenshot appears, timethief. I'm a new convert to Mac so am not sure whether it's there for your viewing.
(BTW...these same lists were there with my PC so it's not the computer.)
That's the location of the screenshot on your computer, which I don't have access to.
Please upload it via Media -> Add New in your blog's Dashboard.
That's the URL of your upload page, but I do see the screenshot there, and what you have is certainly strange.
Try this reconnect procedure: http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#reconnecting-facebook
If you just want to disconnect Facebook, stop after step 4. If you want to reconnect with Facebook, continue to step 5.
