Embed a widget into a post?

  1. I have a widget that I want to use IN a post, not on the sidebar. How can I do this? When I copied and posted the code, it just showed the text in the post, not the widget. It's not a flash widget. It's supposed to work on WordPress. Ideas?

The blog I need help with is tetleythegsd.wordpress.com.

  2. Do remember that there are two wordpresses, and the widget you might be describing may be made for self-hosted wordpress blogs rather than the blogs here at the wordpress.COM free hosting service, which have many more restrictions.

We would have to be able to see the code to determine if it would work here. You can paste the code here into the forums by placing it between backticks (the key to the left of the #1 with the ~ on it).

  3. Here is the code:

    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://cdn.widgetserver.com/syndication/subscriber/InsertWidget.js"></script><script>if (WIDGETBOX) WIDGETBOX.renderWidget('0193fdfc-a8c0-4cdb-83d9-cf71b23e5ff0');</script><noscript>Get the <a href="http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/travel-distance">Travel Distance Calculator</a> widget and many other <a href="http://www.widgetbox.com/">great free widgets</a> at <a href="http://www.widgetbox.com">Widgetbox</a>!</noscript>

  4. That won't word at wordpress.com. Javascript is not allowed, for reasons set out in the FAQ.

  5. As I was afraid, that contains javascript, which is not allowed here due to security concerns just as flash, forms and iframes are not allowed.

That might work in a post in a self-hosted wordpress install, but not here at wordpress.COM.

  6. Thanks guys. Appreciate it. I will try to find one that works. :-)

  7. Perhaps if you explain what you are trying to accomplish we might have some suggestions that will work for you and also here at wordpress.COM.
