Embedding Video--Appearing as Text

  1. Hello, I am trying to embed two videos on my blog.

I followed the instructions and put each link on it's own line (making sure they are not "linked") but when I view it on my blog, they come up as text links only.

Can you please let me know what I might be doing wrong?

The blog I need help with is beingawesomeisadrag.com.

  2. What are the video URLs and/or where are they from?

  3. The shortcodes work every time for me. It takes less than 30 seconds to post one.

The video embeds that WordPress.com supports for all of our blogs - no upgrade required. http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/

    Video shortcodes > http://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/#video

For a Flash workaround see here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/07/22/gigya-shortcode-3-widgets/

  4. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Yes, I've read the instructions you link to and still I can't get it to work correctly.

One video is from YouTube and the other is from NBC.com (although if the NBC one is a problem I might be able to find the same one on YouTube).

  5. I cannot help nor can any other Volunteer help until you post the URLs. Please do that now.

  6. Do not add anything or remove anything from what I post. Simply copy and paste the youtube shortcode including the square brackets onto a single line.

    [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?hl=en&client=mv-google&gl=CA&v=4x_QkGPCL18&nomobile=1]

    here's the second one

    [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfKL6RM8hsY]

  7. Yes, that totally worked! Thank you. The only change being that when I added the link for the second one (above) and put it on one line it didn't work. But when I re-pasted it and left it where it broke naturally, it worked.

So for future, would I just add "youtube=" and open and closing brackets to the whole thing? What if I wasn't using YouTube?

    Many thanks.

  8. That's good news that doesn't surprise me because I had both videos operating on my test blog when I posted the answer here. :)

What if I wasn't using YouTube?

    Happy blogging!

  9. Okay great, thanks for your help!

  10. The only change being that when I added the link for the second one (above) and put it on one line it didn't work. But when I re-pasted it and left it where it broke naturally, it worked.

What do you mean by "left it where it broke naturally"?

It sounds like a formatting problem or a bad copy/paste for the first try? If you think auto embed isn't working when it should be, could you reply back and include the exact URL you're using when the problem happens for you?

  11. These are the urls I used:

    http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=4x_QkGPCL18&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D4x_QkGPCL18

    http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/nick-burns-your-companys-computer-guy/n11355/

I've since changed the nbc.com link to this, since nbc.com did not seem to be supported:

    http://vimeo.com/24762526

When I tried copy and pasting the youtube link, the url appeared on two lines in my post, so as instructed, I deleted the extra space and put it on one line. When I "previewed it," it still appeared as a text link. I tried copy/pasting again and left it broken on two lines and that seemed to work. (Right now it appears on one line in the post and it seems to be working fine).

But you're right, I think the auto embed is not working properly. I should just be able to copy paste without adding shortcodes--is that correct?

  12. I should just be able to copy paste without adding shortcodes--is that correct?

That's correct, but you should be using the YouTube page link, and not any other kind of YouTube link.

This link appears to be some kind of special link for mobile viewing:

    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4x_QkGPCL18&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D4x_QkGPCL18

Instead of that use this on it's own line and it should work:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x_QkGPCL18

  13. Okay, thank you for that. It turns out, I think I know what the problem is...I've recently begun working on an iPad through the WordPress.com app and it seems like there is a whole new set of issues I'm encountering. I'm guessing that's why the link I was using was for mobile viewing?

  14. I'm guessing that's why the link I was using was for mobile viewing?

Ah, that makes sense. When you paste the video link into WordPress.com, try replacing the "m" in the beginning of the domain with "www"

  15. Okay, I will try that. Thanks so much for your help.
