Enable Hyperlinks in Photo Captions

  1. When uploading photos to my blog, I usually add a URL to photo captions. However, when these photos are published, the URL is rendered almost useless because it's not hyperlinked.

The blog I need help with is dailybymorin.com.

  2. How can one add hyperlinks to uploaded photos? Note: I'm aware that I can upload individual photos and add a hyperlink directly below each image. However, this doesn't scale when uploading large photo albums.

  3. You can't add hyperlinks to captions as the captions are no HTML activated.

  4. edit: "no HTML activated." was meant to be "not HTML activated."

  5. Bummer. Do you know if we can add hyperlinks to descriptions or any aspect of the photo album uploader?

  6. None of those fields are HTML activated.

  7. Ok, thanks for the help!

  8. Sorry my answers weren't the ones you wanted to hear. Best wishes with your blog.

  9. a) The Description field accepts all the HTML and inline CSS you can use in the HTML editor or in a text widget.

    b) Captions can include links if you use the workaround explained here:

  10. a) The Description field accepts all the HTML and inline CSS you can use in the HTML editor or in a text widget.

Wow! That's news to me. Thanks for posting it.

  11. The links look a lot like an affiliate catalog link to me so there might be a Terms of Service issue.

  12. @panaghiotisadam: Thanks for the tip!

@auxclass: I checked over the terms of service before using my affiliate links and did not see any prohibitions there.

  13. In a nutshell no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM

The advertising exceptions noted in support documentation are for high traffic blogs that qualify for and are accepted into the Ad Control program, soon to be replaced with the WordAds program, and for extremely high traffic blogs that qualify and are accepted into the paid VIP hosting program.

The only exceptions noted in support documentation with regard to affiliate links are found here:

Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/

If you have any further questions about advertising and/or affiliate links and/or ecommerce on a free blog from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM please contact Staff directly using this link. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising and/or affiliate links you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org Refer to > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  14. Good call, thanks for the heads up!

  15. Looks like .org is the way to go.
