Expound theme problem

  1. I'm hoping someone can give me some insight. I am posting four articles at the same time and trying to get a particular post to be the top (featured one). My understanding was that if I posted it last, it would be on top, but that never seems to happen. If I make that particular one "sticky," then it changes the formatting and it doesn't give the top article with the columns underneath it. Instead, it shows that main one and then the next three come immediately underneath it. Help, please?

The blog I need help with is nextstepscsd.wordpress.com.

One reason a post appears at the top of the list on the front page is that it has the most recent date; whether you change post dates after the fact - in the post edit or quick edit screen - to change their position on the list is a judgment call.
Another reason a post appears at the top of the list is that you've tagged it as featured content in Settings/Reading. This feature is available in the Expound theme.
Another reason: the "sticky" setting in Visibility - right side of post editor - also affects the position of the post.
    Cheers!

  3. Thank you so much, I happily figured out about changing the dates last night, so have it ready to go.

My next question, if anyone knows the answer, is...is there a way to increase the font size for the blog's full title?

    Thank you!

  4. you'd probably have to add Custom Fonts - http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/ - which is a premium service; I haven't tested Custom Fonts in your theme to see if you could then isolate the title to change the font size
    cheers!

  5. Ah, okay. Thank you!

  6. I am having trouble setting the front page on expound & also the featured tags/categories. How to set them ? clear description would be helpful..

    much thanks

If you are looking to set featured posts, you'll find that in Settings/Reading. Add a tag name in Settings/Reading - then posts that you add that same tag to become featured posts.

Not sure what you are wanting to do with the front page.

    Cheers!

  8. I'm trying to set up featured posts in Expound and have followed the instructions carefully, but they simply do not appear and the blog entries remain in chronological order. If I try making one entry a 'sticky' which at a pinch would work, I lose the attractive four columns beneath top entry.
Disappointing because I love the theme. (SaffronMagazine.co.uk)

It looks as if your top four posts are "featured". They go full-width. The remaining posts have the sidebar to the right and do not go full-width.

    Cheers!

  10. I guess I've misunderstood what the featured posts would look like. Really wanted to see the chosen five posts at one glance when opening the page. But nevertheless I have set featured posts and these aren't the ones I selected!

  11. OK, in Settings/Reading dbl-check that in the Featured Content section you've entered a tag name; say you use "featured"; choose the number of posts you want featured: start with two as a test.

Now in your post editor - either full or quick - type in "featured" in the tag section and rechk.

Looks like you have a custom Expound Theme; are there any settings there that could be causing the problem?

    Cheers!

  12. That's what I did, except I called them Saffron news. I'll try starting again and retagging them. Haven't done anything fancy in customising theme, no CSS, just colour and fonts.

  13. It seems to be working now - only sorry I can't use the 4 column layout with featured posts. Thanks for your help.

  14. I'll carve out some time & take a look at the columns; will try to get back to you tomorrow.

  15. That's really helpful. Thank you.

have done some more testing on the column issue w/o much success; if I run across a solution - which is very possible - I'll let you know

    cheers!

  17. Would be great! I'll keep my fingers crossed - only other irritation I have now with the template is the size of the post headings. I often write quite long heads (http://saffronmagazine.co.uk/2013/08/20/thinking-and-speaking-and-eating-on-santorini/) and they look ungainly. I suppose it is a case of CSS coding - but my skill level stops before that! Can you help?
I really appreciate the time you have spent on my queries.

  18. I use Expound and you can show only 5 featured posts: one large across the top, (below the header if you're using one) then 4 in columns below.

Edit the posts to show in the post editor and add or remove your tag-for-featured-posts. If you show your latest posts as "featured" they don't repeat the "normal" front page format. The posts appear in reverse chronological order. But I use the theme to feature old posts which are still useful, so I switch what appears up top.

I would advise against changing dates on posts because the date is part of the link to that post (it's not there just for decoration), so if Google et al have indexed your site, then people wanting to see that post will see a 404 not found error because you changed the link—you'll have to wait for Google to index your site again.

As for long titles, if you had the CSS upgrade, then you could change to a smaller font size.

  19. Hello all, i just changed my theme from Elegant Grunge to Expound and my problem now is that there is no feature photo selected for Every single post of mine as the previous theme do not have this feature.

Right now my home page is just words with no photos and I have to edit ALL of my hundreds of post to select a feature photo.

Is there any way to solve this? I really hope i can set it such that each feature photo will automatically be the first photo of every post.

    Thank you.

I'm with Tess on that. Don't do it! http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/05/avoid-creating-404-pages/

  21. I´ve got two different blog based on Expound theme, and even doing exactly the same thing i arrived to different results. In http://paternalarteypolitica.wordpress.com/ i´ve got the main post and the next four in a four columns format. But in http://la3del7.wordpress.com/ the next four are displayed just like one underneath the previous one, not in the four columns format. Anyone knows the reason?

PS: in both cases i´ve made nothing but posting (no fix post option selected, no Settings/Reading/Featured content changed)

  22. @xdered
What you describe is exactly how the theme is designed to function.

  23. @@xdered
Hold it! I don't see the main post and the next four in a four columns format here http://paternalarteypolitica.wordpress.com/

I don't see the main post and the next four in a four columns format here either http://la3del7.wordpress.com/

  24. Is weird, entering http://paternalarteypolitica.wordpress.com/ trough Chrome i see the four columns format, but doing it though Explorer it doesn´t display it that way ¿?

  25. I'm using Firefox 24 and I don't see the main post and the next four in a four columns format using it.

  26. Mmm... don´t know the reason... Anyway, what i mean is that on this preview http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/expound/ they show the four columns format but the on the demo i doesn´t look like that. Well, the same happens on my blogs :(

  27. I know exactly what you mean and I already tagged this thread for Themes Staff support.

  28. Thanks for your time and attention, timethief :)

  29. You're welcome.

  30. I'm having this problem with the columns too and would be glad if you could let me know if there is a fix.
