Extreme Newbie: Clickable links in header and Nav bar help please

  1. Hi, I'm really hoping some kind people here will be able to help me out with this as I am a total novice.

I have a current website: http://www.playfulpenguins.co.uk. I would really like to change the graphics on the website so that it looks like this: http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/628/01finalbackgroundnov201.jpg

I need help with 2 things, if you look at my blog http://playfulpenguins2.wordpress.com it might make my questions easier to understand!

    1. I would like for each penguin "button" in the header to link to a different part of the website. How do I go about this? I know nothing about programming, although I know a little HTML.

    2. As I see it the website has 5 sections, symbolised by each penguin "button". I would like each section to have it's own nav bar. So if Home is section 1, the nav bar is correct. But if "about us" is section 2, then the nav bar would be 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc. Is this possible?

If it helps I'm currently using the twentyten theme. Any help would be much appreciated and the less technically worded the better! Thanks so much!

The blog I need help with is playfulpenguins2.wordpress.com.

  2. Have some news for you - your playfulpenguins.co.uk is not hosted on WordPress.COM.

So help on your new site should be addressed to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

For more on the difference: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  3. Thanks auxclass for the reply, I didn't realise there was a difference. I did look at the .org side of wordpress but it seemed to be more a lot more technical. I was rather hoping to build to website in .COM and paste the code for each page into a text document and upload to my .co.uk website.

Or does it not work like that?!

  4. PS> Should I clarify that the http://www.playfulpenguins.co.uk site was not made using wordpress.org. It's hosted separately.

  5. This forum is only for free blogs being free hosted by WordPress.COM. All those who have blogs that are hosted by any other web host must post to http://WordPress.ORG/support

  6. For the wordpress.COM blog you referenced, having the images as navigation buttons might be possible if you had a good level of CSS editing experience and the paid CSS upgrade. I think what you could do is to rework the navigation bar and use the images as background images for the different tabs/buttons. To have it from within the header though would require image mapping and I don't think that is possible here since we don't have access to the underlying theme files.

Hallluke could probably help with the CSS. I might even be able to "hack" something together although it would take me a lot longer than it would Luke.

I certainly would not buy the CSS upgrade until (hopefully) hallluke comes through and says it's possible.
