Facebook Widget Doesn't Save Changes

The Facebook Like Box widget offers two things that are unresponsive to my input:

    1) I am instructed to designate a "Height." The height remains 110 pixels irrespective of what number I enter.
    2) I am instructed to check or uncheck "Show Border." Both the check and the unchecked "show border" yield a border.

I've deleted and reloaded the widget. I've cleared cache and tried at different times. Any idea how can I get the widget to save changes?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is dawnduncanharrell.com.

  2. The only widgets we can use are the ones which are linked to here. For details re: Facebook integration for WordPress.com blogs please see here. http://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-integration/

As raincoaster already said in your other thread the widgets we have here are NOT configurable. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-can-i-get-the-facebook-widget-to-respond-to-my-directives?replies=7#post-1364638

I am not attempting to reconfigure a widget. I am attempting to save the information I have entered into the current widget supplied to me by WordPress.

The widget offers four slots to fill in (title, Facebook page URL, width, height), one color scheme drop-down selection (dark or light), and four boxes to check or uncheck (show faces, show stream, show borders, show wall).

In the matter of height and show borders, it is not saving my changes. Irrespective of what I type in, the height is always 110 pixels. Irrespective of whether or not I check show borders, the border is always present.

Is that because those features are stuck at a standard for everybody who uses the widget or because I need to do something (besides "save")? And if the later, what would be that "something"?

  5. Hi dawnduncanharrell,

I just tested the FB Like Widget on a test site running the same theme, and it's working as expected.

Please try removing the widget and adding it again to see if that will reset things. If not, would you please try a different browser so we can isolate whether or not it's your current browser? If it works in a different browser, could you let me know the browser and browser version you usually use, so we can see if that's the issue?

Other browser troubleshooting can be found here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

Please let me know if any of these things help or not.

I usually work in Explorer. As you instructed, I tried it in Firefox. Same thing. It's not working for me in either browser.

Furthermore, I'm also trying to use it in a blog I have in Twenty Thirteen and another I have in Coraline and it's not working in either of those. (Too many blogs, I know.)

By "not working," I mean, it will not save my specifications regarding height and border.

  7. Hi there,

Did you try removing the widget entirely and setting it up from scratch? That often helps clear out the code and allows it to work properly again.

Yes. Several times over several months on various themes in Explorer, including yesterday several times. Once yesterday on Firefox.

  9. Hi dawnduncanharrell,

I'm not sure why it's not functioning properly for you, but I'd be happy to try to update the settings for you. Please let me know what height you are wanting, and for which blog, and I'll see what I can do.

If the like box widget automatically expands lengthwise to accommodate additional gravatars then why would one enter a height?

  11. @timethief,

You can adjust the box to be shorter, so it doesn't show the Gravatars, for example.

  12. Yes, I figure setting a height would limit the number of gravatars that could be displayed by the widget. But as these widgets are useless for any purpose other than bragging I assume that no one using one would want to limit the number of gravatars. Maybe I'm off base on that. :S

Gravatars are a width issue that I've chosen to live with. The width is often limited by the width option on the sidebar. That is fixed.

I'd like the height to reflect the height of the like box. My visual judgment is that it's about half of what the current 110 height is.

Thank you for offering to fix it from your end.

The later is not public yet because I'm still building it. Can you access it or do you need me to make it public for a particular time period so you can fix the widget size?

  14. Hi dawnduncanharrell,

I tried, but was also unable to reduce the size of the box. Digging into this deeper, I hadn't realized that in the way the widget is set to display, 100px is the minimum height for the "Like" box to display, and it doesn't appear it can be reduced further in the box or with custom CSS.

    Sorry about that!

Thank you for engaging this, Jackie.

Perhaps the next time the widget is replaced/updated/redesigned, the boxes height can be designed to fit the actual like button with its designation and gravatar. Or even, a like button with no stuff around it could be an option.

For now, I will use my goofy work-around options.

    Happy Monday.

  16. Hi again,

Thanks for your feedback about the FB like widget layout. You might consider posting it to our Ideas forum, http://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas
