Try this: take an image that's hosted at WordPress, something from your blog perhaps. Copy the URL of that image, not the post, and put that URL in your browser bar. Hit Enter.
Where the blue W favicon is normally on WordPress.com blogs, you will find a tiny representation of your picture.
I hope this means they're working on favicons for the blogs.

I thought that's a firefox feature. My browser displays the usual favicon at the domain root.
e.g.: http://raincoaster.files.wordpress.com/favicon.ico
Yes, so far. But I've never noticed that happening with WP.com images before. Maybe I'm just oblivious, but pretty much every day I look at an image alone from WP.com and I never saw it before.

Sorry to kill all your hopes, but this is definitely a Firefox feature and this works with every images opened directly with this browser. Make the test : go anywhere on the web where you can find an image, right click on the image and select "display the image" so that the browser will remove the html stuff around it and load only the image, and you will see a tiny representation of the picture at the favicon place.
Ah well. I wonder why I didn't notice it before?
