Option to change the favicon would be awesome and add a real feel of customization

I concur. Great idea.
-
Wait and see ...
-
You have an inside scoop for us, baba?
-
It's been requested many, many times before. Can't hurt to do it again, but I'm not holding my breath.
-
Since this is on the table, I'll throw in my vote for it too!
-
As rain says, I'm not holding my breath. It's good advertising for wordpress. Anyone who goes to a wordpress.com blog - with or without domain mapping sees the wordpress "W".
-
Yeah, but it would be nice ;)
-
I agree, and it was also suggested back in 2007 http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/custom-favicon-and-feedicon/page/2?replies=43, so they really should have been working on this already. I have already designed my favicon just in case they announce one day that we can have one.
-
You are assuming that back in 2007, they decided to let people have their own favicon and have just been slow in implementing it. There is no evidence to support the case that they are either thinking about it, nor working on it.
-
OK, well...I wish they should have been think or working on it...? Sorry for the careless assumption on my part.
-
Well, about all we can do with any suggestion sent in to staff is assume really. They seldom give hints one way or another.
-
Damnit I didn't know I couldn't do that when I signed up. A custom favicon is important to me--my blog has a very distinctive and recognizable one. I'm really disappointed by this. I guess I'll send a suggestion myself so they get the impression this is very much wanted.
-
Yikes.. Brand your site and everything you do with your logo (your logo is the same graphic as your favicon, right?).
-
I completey agree, especially with those who purchased the domain mapping upgrade!
-
That would be awesome!
-
Using Google Chrome's new "Create application shortcut..." feature makes for a very ugly desktop WordPress icon. At the very least, WP should upgrade their icon with a 64x64 True Color version (and other versions) so that when people do see that distinctive W it actually looks decent.
-
Favicon's for wordpress would lift the whole feel and sense of pesonalisation.
-
executivecoachingguru, fully agree with you!
-
It looks simple to do this if you run the wordpress software yourself.
http://codex.wordpress.org/favicon.ico
Is it conclusively not possible to change it if Wordpress is hosting the blog? That would be extremely lame, especially for those of us who sprang for the domain mapping. -
Is it conclusively not possible to change it if Wordpress is hosting the blog?
It is conclusively not possible because we do not have access to the underlying theme files.
-
Please count my vote as well. It is sort of frustrating to find out that you cannot change the favicon even though you paid for a custom URL and custom CSS. :(
-
Would make sense to offer custom favicon to those that have bought a custom url.
Seems mean of wordpress not to.
-
Please.... please...please. We all need the Fav.icon option... could you get together, make a decision and make us all happy? :)))
-
There is a plugin at codex.wordpress.org
I modified it to allow users upload favicons themselves. I think Wordpress.com Team can make it much better...
-
help!
-
Yes Wordpress
Please enable us to have our own Fav.icon, it seems strange that we can have our own domain names and then the wordpress W disappears when you do that anyway so that excuse of knowing it is a wordpress site is floored as there is wordpress branding at the bottom of everypage? It would be simple to apply me thinks!
Go on Wordpress we love you anyway make us love you more!
-
I know wordpress can take it, so allow me to say that the new blog platform I'm playing with right now has this favicon option and it is pretty cool (viviti.com, for those who follow emily chang may have seen the link recently).

LOOKS LIKE WORDPRESS ARE LOOKING INTO THIS SO KEEP CHECKING FOR PROGRESS:
Hi,
Regarding the favicon, we are currently working on something, so stay tuned. Progress has certainly been made in this.
Best,
