I've been searching all afternoon for a possibility to add something like a "Featured Posts" section or tab, for example to my sidebar (or somewhere on top below the menu for instance) but haven't been able to find a way to do this (but I found a mass of plugins for wordpress.org who see to accomplish this). Is there any way to customize a widget or are you guys going to add a "Featured Posts" widget soon?

There is no such widget provided by WordPress.com but you can create you own featured posts widget by using a text widget > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
