Finding WP version running

    I saw a nine month old query regarding my subject, but the answer (specific) was never completed. I would like to find out what version of WordPress I am running on my blog and where, if at all, I can find plugins on my blog.

    The blog I need help with is gadabout-blogalot.com.

    You can't do Plug-in's at WordPress.COM for security reasons. You have a lot of Widgets to compensate. If you need a specific function ask for that - there are many workarounds by some very smart people.

    The version number does not matter because of the above - but you are running at least the latest version - many times WordPress.COM is running ahead of the latest version.

    Thanks, but although the version # does not matter to you, it does to a dummy like me. I have to know in some way whether updates have downloaded.

    Is there a way for me to tell or do I perpetually wonder?

    WordPress.COM is ALWAYS up to date - if you really need a version number look at the current release number over at WordPress.ORG and you are at least there.

    WordPress.COM does the updating for you - you have no control over the version of the software running here. You can't update ANYTHING on your blog except the Pages and Posts that you write and the sidebar contents etcc.

    WordPress.COM does not do version numbers because this is not a standard wordpress installation. It is a modified version of wordpress multi-site. Staff here can sometimes roll out small to medium sized code changes many times in a day.

    Here is the bottom line: You are always at least on the latest official version of wordpress, and at times you are ahead of the game here and on a version that has not yet been released to the public. But again, it is a modified version no matter what so it cannot be accurately tied to a specific version.

    As to when wordpress.COM does updates, they do them all the time here, continuously. This is a constantly changing and evolving platform.

    Thank you. I have never had wordpress.org so when I received this from Matthew Mullenweg this morning I assumed it was for me and other .com users.

    First off, happy holidays. :) I hope this time of the year, chilly for many of you, has given you time to enjoy family, friends, and loved ones and reflect on the year before and the year to come.

    My last message to you this year is an important but unfortunate one: we've fixed a pretty critical vulnerability in WordPress' core HTML sanitation library, and because this library is used lots of places it's important that everyone update as soon as possible.

    I realize an update during the holidays is no fun, but this one is worth putting down the eggnog for. In the spirit of the holidays, consider helping your friends as well.

    Additionally, in the two years I've used .com, I have never had this explained to me. I sincerely appreciate your information, but perhaps .com users should not be sent version update information if it applies to .org users only. I do see that the download link is a .org link now, but it did not register with me, so I did download it whether it took or not.

    There is no FTP access to wordpress.COM free hosted blogs and we cannot load anything into them. Staff take care of all upgrades here.

    I did not think much of the email from Matt as I used to have a .ORG site - other than to think that the upgrade must be pretty important since I had never gotten an email about an upgrade - the upgrades had always been announced in the control panel when you logged in.

    I hope it did not scare too many people.

    @gadaboutblogalot, rest assured that any security related issues most likely are taken care of here even before the fix goes live at the wordpress.ORG site since there is a lot at stake here with millions and millions of blogs, so they take security issues very seriously here. Also due to the nature of this blogging platform, some security issues that can affect a .ORG blog won't affect us here. Never the less, the updates are always done in a very timely manner.

    That is one of the great things about blogging here; it is probably the most secure blogging platform there is.
