Flash update breaks flash uploader - Mac Firefox

  1. The latest Flash update for the Mac - Flash 10 - breaks the Flash uploader in WP.com blogs. Clicking the "Choose Files to Upload" button does nothing. Browser uploader still works, though.

  2. First off Link 2 your WordPress.COM blog please starting with the prefix http

  3. The uploader doesn't work with Flash 10 because Adobe crippled the file upload feature in that version. It's unlikely there will be a direct solution - we're probably going to have to remove the Flash uploader and replace it with something else. In the meantime your options are to use the browser uploader, or downgrade to Flash 9.

  4. Since downgrading is a pain in the butt (actually I'm not even sure how to do it when it's installed from the repositories), I guess I'm stuck with the browser uploader. :-(

  5. Here are the instructions for how to uninstall flash player for both Mac and Windows: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157 . You will need to download an uninstaller and run it. It can also be done manually, but the uninstaller is much easier.

  6. Actually I now see in the instructions that you have to use the uninstaller to remove flash player now (first paragraph).

  7. Um, YAY! I've never once gotten the flash uploader to work, and this probably means that WP.com, Photobucket, and Flickr will stop drinking the Adobe kool-aid and use a simple browser uploader as the default again instead of making me click through extra pages just to do what I used to be able to do before.

  8. I will look into downgrading Flash (I must have clicked on the Flash upgrade reminder and now I noticed that the image uploader doesn't work). I am just wondering if there is a work around in wordpress.com to upload images in bulk without reverting flash back to the old version?

  9. Not that I know of ismailimail. The browser uploader only does one at a time.

  10. This problem should be priority number one for the WordPress guys!

  11. We have different priorities, obviously. And who KNOWS what staff's priorities are?

  12. reynie, we'd love to fix it, but we're not Adobe.

  13. Must remember never upgrade...must remember never upgrade....

  14. stusshed,
Upgrades are not always bad. Just don't be the first to do it.
thesacredpath has a link to go back.

With wp.com, we don't get a choice about the upcoming change.

Does anyone know what the upcoming upgrade for wp.com will do with the Flash uploader? will it still remain available?

  15. I'm having the same problem for a week or so. I do remember upgrading flash so that is probably it. thesacredpath provide a link for uninstalling flash 10 but I haven't been able to find anything on reinstalling flash 9, or even if it will work. Or is there another thread I've missed?

  16. I just checked, the Flash version 9 is 134 or 129MB so I won't be downloading that. It's too big. Is anyone else on dialup. :)

Will V8 work just as well?

    Anyone know? Anyone done it?

  17. I tried flash 9 and it DOES NOT WORK.

WordPress - how is your fix coming along? I've got a heap of backlogged photos i would love to publish... Just waiting on your go ahead.

Thanks Guys, you have a great site.

  18. I don't have a link "choose files to upload" in FF, only with IE, which constantly crashes.

Is it a problem of flashplayer 10 (btw also tried 9 somehow, and still nothing happened) or is it a firefox related problem.

I'm also really sad, because I need to upload more photos..

Looking forward to know what happens! Thanks!

  19. This thing needs to be fixed or there needs to be a better work around.

I completely agree with arifsali. The flash uploader was wonderful and I am disappointed with that lack of functionality.

I look forward to the fix.

  21. Ok. I took the plunge and downloaded Flash 9 (134MB = 24hrs on my dialup, there is resume support). Following the links provided above for the uninstaller and the archived Flash versions, and following the instructions to the letter, Flash 9 brings back multi image upload capability. In Firefox 3 anyway. And I won't be upgrading to flash 10 anytime soon, or 11. :)

This is what I did in case it helps anyone. I downloaded the uninstaller and after closing EVERY unnecessary program I ran it, uninstall successful. Then I rebooted the system, because I was told to. With all unnecessary programs closed I then downloaded version 9 of Flash from the link above and as it was downloading shut down EVERYTHING but the download. The download is a zip file containing a number of folders containing all releases of version 9 so I opened the latest one, folder 9r151. I installed this one, flashplayer9r151_win.exe (there are two other win....exe files in this folder - and other files). And it works, so far.

  22. Folks, thanks for fixing the Flash uploader in the new dashboard.

  23. OMG!! Yes!! I'm using the latest versions of Seamonkey (Mozilla) and Flock, both with Flash 10. And now the WP flash uploader works again! Thanks!!
