'Follow us' Twitter and Facebook buttons

  1. Hi guys,

I have my blog almost as I want it but am looking for a way to add buttons that link to Facebook/Twitter pages (such as the snazzy ones built into the new Liquorice theme).

Bueno comes with the sharing buttons at the end of each post but I would like some on say the header (or perhaps on the top of each post) that people can click through to see our pages and follow us at their will.

Any help/code/advice would be greatly appreciated.

The blog I need help with is buffalopress.wordpress.com.

  2. You can enable sharing button at the end of your posts and pages. They will appear at the bottom of your posts as we want people to actually read the post before they decide whether or not to share it. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/

If you also wish to display social network icons in your sidebar that are linked to your profile pages on those sites then you can do that as well. You can find free icons for all social networks on the internet. They are images so you capture them, then upload them into your blog, link them to your profile pages on the appropriate social networks and display them in a text widget in your sidebar. The easy way to do this is to create a draft post and use it to create the display you want, then you switch to the HTML editor and copy the code from it, and piste it into the text widget. When you are done you can deleted the draft post.

I'm sorry but that's not possible unless you are adept at CSS editing and purchase an annually renewable CSS editing upgrade and do the work yourself.

  4. RATS! I'm so sorry I just noticed that this thread is in the CSS Forum and you do have the upgrade. Not enough coffee I guess :(

Please be patient while waiting for a Volunteer who help with CSS to help you.

Also see the head of the CSS forum sticky posts.
Be sure to read this article before starting your editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/

  5. This can be done by putting the linked images into a text widget and then using positioning from within the CSS to move it up and into the area you want it, but in some instances this can be problematic as the repositioned widget will shift up or down depending on whether someone is logged into wordpress or not.

Why not just put them into a text widget at the top of the sidebar?

  6. Hi guys,

Thank you both for your advice and help - I love how helpful the forums are here at WordPress!

I was totally overthinking this one and in the end went for the option of adding linked images to the text widget.

Anyone else looking for ways to do it check out timethief's walkthrough guide here - http://bit.ly/fKSjzS
