"Following"

  • I am trying to follow http://songoftheweekblog.com using my valid email address (email visible only to moderators and staff).

For some reason I get this page and its associated message: https://subscribe.wordpress.com/?update=invalid

Perhaps your protocols are not aware that .eu is a valid address?

It means that one of your bloggers is missing out on a follower.

  • I just entered your email in the Follow form on that site and was not directed to that error page. Did you receive an email confirming your subscription?

I’m not entirely sure why you would get this error. Are you blocking JavaScript in your browser? Or running a plugin that blocks social media such as DisconnectMe?

  • Hi Shawn,

Thanks for this – I just received an email confirming my subscription around the same time as your message, so probably as a result of your intervention.

But I don’t run a social media blocker and am pretty sure I am not blocking JavaScript, although it *does* crash frequently, so maybe that’s the reason. I have had this problem with eclipso.eu before, but never with gmail, which was why I wondered if it might be a problem with a definition of “valid”.

  • Hi Andrew,

If you see JavaScript crash often, that’s probably the issue here. The .eu extension should be fine for us, but if JS isn’t working when you submit your email address that would disrupt the connection to our servers.

If you see this happen again, can you try closing your browser and reopening? And you could try using the logged in follow button in the admin bar. To see this option, you’ll need to log in to your WordPress.com account.

If this happens again, let me know if either of those options work. :)
