Following blogs when I have multiple blogs

  1. Hi... this is probably answered in the support pages however I couldn't find it.

I have multiple blogs but only one I'm really using at the moment. If I choose to follow someone else's blog, what does the blog owner see when they look at their followers list? Do they see my user name, or do they see my username and blog? And if they see the blog too, then is there a way I can make sure that all "follows" will be done through my current blog?

    I hope this makes sense!

  2. You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you'll find help at the WordPress.org forums.

If you don't understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.

If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It'll help people to answer your question.

    This is an automated message.

  3. I'm not sure how hard this question is to answer... perhaps nobody knows the answer and I should try to email wordpress directly, but I'm sure they get more than enough emails to answer as it is and I had hoped to prevent adding to the pile by posting here.

So - nobody knows the answer? If someone out there does, please reply! It's kinda important to me since I have a number of blogs for different purposes and I don't want to "follow" someone using the wrong blog.

  4. Before anyone can give you an accurate answer, you need to answer a question yourself:

You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

    (Emphasis mine)

So what is the address of at least one of the blogs you have?

  5. I didn't post a blog address because my question is not about any specific blog. So I don't see it as relevant. The real question is:

    1. I have 3 blogs, let's call them "Cats", "Dogs", and "Monkeys".
    2. I log into my account, I find a blog I enjoy reading, I hit "follow".
    3. That blog's author logs into their account, notices they have 1 new follower.
    4. They click to see who it is.

    Now either -

    a) my username shows up: "Sybylladreams is following your blog", or

    b) whatever blog I was logged into at the time shows up: "Cats is following your blog" or "Monkeys is following your blog".

I'm just wanting to know whether it's A or B. If nobody wants to answer that, or if nobody knows the answer, I'll just email the support people and hopefully get a response.

  6. The answer DOES depend on your blog, or rather where it is hosted (WordPress.com or elsewhere).

But if you don't want to help us to help you, that's fine. This is how to contact WordPress.com staff: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

  7. Well I could modify my question and say that all of my blogs are on wordpress and I only follow other wordpress blogs at the moment. But I probably still wouldn't get an answer.

It's not a matter of not wanting people on the forum to help me, as obviously I posted here to get some help. But I don't see how it is relevant providing my personal blog information for all and sundry. Yes I realize that as my blog is not private, it does get read by strangers from time to time. But I'm not comfortable inviting a bunch of strangers to go look at my blog, when it really doesn't affect the question I'm asking.

If the FAQs on following were written better, I might have even been able to answer my own question. But thanks for the email address, I'll go contact wordpress and in future I won't ask any questions on the forum unless I have a specific problem with a specific blog.

  8. I thought your question reasonable as asked, and your desire to not share personal blog information that shouldn't be relevant very understandable. FWiW

Sorry you didn't get an answer as I was curious myself.

  9. It is relevant. Fully a third of questions come from people who are in the wrong forum. That's the only reason we want to know the URL. In your case, your name links to your blog, so we don't have to ask.

Now, as to YOUR question: they see the username and the PRIMARY blog.

  10. Raincoaster, I appreciate that but I WAS in the right forum and I knew that. Besides, the fact that you answered my question without knowing my blog address proves that the blog URL was not necessary in this case.

Anyway this is the response I got from the help team:

"When you follow a blog, the notification email says that Sybylla (-ed: the public name I chose to use for my profile) is now following your blog and includes a link to your Gravatar profile (http://en.gravatar.com/sybylladreams), which displays any information you have chosen to make public. You can edit your public profile by going to Users -> My Profile in your Dashboard. You can edit your primary blog by going to Users -> Personal Settings. "

But I don't think that Gravatar displays your primary blog, unless you specifically add the URL in the profile section maybe.

  11. Yes, you have to do that.
