Hi - I've tried cutting/pasting text from Word into a post, but the formatting goes haywire after I "publish" my post. (I am using the Rich Text Editor.) What's the best way to avoid this? Thanks

Don't cut and paste from Word or other websites without using an interstitial paste into a plain text editor like Notepad to strip out the formatting. Format in WordPress itself or use a desktop blog publishing program like Blogdesk. See this thread for more details:

This is also noted in the FAQs http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/09/why-not-to-use-word/

Thanks. I checked out the links. If I have original copy in Word, what's the easiest way to complete "an interstitial paste into a plain text editor like Notepad to strip out the formatting"? (I have a Lenovo Laptop with Microsoft Office - does that come with Notepad?).

Select All, Copy All, Paste into a blank Notepad document (yes, your laptop will have it under Accessories). Then copy all of what's in the Notepad doc, and paste that into your blog. You have to re-format it online. Putting it in Notepad strips out all the weird, random tags Word adds.
