Free Version of WordPress Themes

  1. I am so frustrated right now and I need help. I am at work trying to install a theme to the free version of WordPress. I do not like the themes that are available because I can't find one that is good where I can change the colors. How do I download a theme in a zip file and install it to the free version of WordPress?

The blog I need help with is randirobot.wordpress.com.

  2. How do I download a theme in a zip file and install it to the free version of WordPress?

You can't - period. You can only use themes found here > Appearnace > Themes. There is no FTP access to free hosted wordpress.com blogs. We cannot upload themes or plugins or anything else into them. Please read this carefully > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  3. tt is right, you can't install external themes to WordPress.com, but many of the themes here allow you to change the header and background colors. What exactly is it do you want to do? And if you are talking about a WordPress.com website, please give us the link, starting with http:// to make it clickable. The site linked to your username is a myspace.com site.

  5. Last entry was in 2009, so maybe the OP is talking about a different blog?

  6. I wondered that too so I did a search http://tinyurl.com/3hcu96f maybe he/or she has a "private" blog or uses another username. When he or she posts again we can ask for the complete URL for the blog in question starting with http://

  7. I also located http://www.randi-iaco.com/ but the most recent entry on that wordpress.ORG install is November 30th, 2010

  8. Yes sorry. Thanks for clearing it up. It was for a blog at work. We ended up just purchasing the option to edit CSS and I am a lot less frustrated.

  9. So is this issue then resolved? If so please enter the OP and change the status of this thread to "resolved".

  10. With regard to CSS editing at wordpress.com please note the following. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to ulpoad any themes, and to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to wordpress.com. CSS is theme specific on this multiuser blogging platform, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.

There is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support. Be sure to read this article before starting your editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/
