   I am brand spanking new to blogging, a little confused. I downloaded, unzipped, & installed wordpress, and per the readme file > "fill in your database connection details." Not sure what path I was traveling or what I needed to do next. Get a DBMS (PHP or MySQL) or sign up with a web hosting partner?

   Not knowing exactly what to do, I signed up for a free account on WordPress.com

   Now that I have a free WordPress account, what if I want to go the other routew/a web hosting partner? Will I need to install a DBMS? What are advantages/disadvantages of one method of blogging (free account) versus the other (web hosting partner)

   i think you have a self-hosted blog, in which case you have to go to http://wordpress.org/support to place your query. this is the forum for bloggers hosted by wp.com. please correct me if i'm mistaken.
