Fresh & Clean slider doesn't slide. Any other good free slider themes?

  1. A client of mine who is using Fresh & Clean wants to have a 'slider' on the home page (their site is private, but I have installed the theme on my test area with the url given here).

The theme does come with a 'slider' but it doesn't seem to 'slide'... you have to manually click between slides to change them.

On the developer's site it says: 'Via the theme panel you can choose your sliding speed, animation and transition. You can also define a custom link for each slide or leave the option blank to show only images.' But those options are not on my dashboard.

Is this no longer supported? Or am I perhaps missing something. I do appreciate it is a free theme and I would be grateful for any insights.

Otherwise, are there any other good free themes with sliders that automatically pull post titles into the slide?

    Many, many thanks.

The blog I need help with is littlemissweb.wordpress.com.

  2. The versions of the themes we have here at WordPress.com have been adapted to run on our software and frequently lack features available in the WordPress.ORG versions of the themes. The only applicable documentation for the version we have is here > http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/fresh-and-clean/

The theme does come with a 'slider' but it doesn't seem to 'slide'... you have to manually click between slides to change them.

That's correct. The version we have does not auto-advance.

  3. Otherwise, are there any other good free themes with sliders that automatically pull post titles into the slide?

There are themes that have featured posts image sliders. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/post-slider/ In most of the themes with featured post sliders, visitors have to click to advance the slider to the next featured post. Some themes have a featured post slider that automatically advances: Debut, Currents, Linen, On Demand, Modularity Lite. (the first 4 are premium themes) and the last one is a free theme. Sight is a free theme with an auto-advancing post slider.

  4. Thanks timethief.

But I can't seem to find a wordpress.org version either... My client might be willing to upgrade... I've found forums where people have discussed this theme for .org, but it isn't showing up in the .org theme search.

  5. When I say 'upgrade' I mean go to self-hosted (that's an upgrade in my eyes, but only because I'm a web designer) ;-)

  6. I can't help you at all with any WordPress.org issue. I suggest you go to the footer of theme and note the web designer. Then email and ask if there is another version that can be run on self hosted WordPress.org software available.

  7. As timethief mentioned above, Modularity Lite is a free WordPress.com theme which has a slider that auto-advances the images, you can take a look at the demo here:

    http://modularitylitedemo.wordpress.com/

Fresh & Clean for self-hosted WordPress.org sites is available here: http://www.wpexplorer.com/fresh-clean-wordpress-theme-by-wpexplorer

    Slideshow demo here: http://wpexplorer.me/demo.php?theme=fresh-clean

If you have any other questions, just let us know.

  8. Thank you timethief and kathryn for your help, it is much appreciated.

I was a bit suspicious about self-hosted Fresh & Clean because a) it isn't listed at wordpress.org/themes and b) the developer hasn't made it easy to contact him from wpexplorer.com (not saying that the work there isn't good, obviously). But the demo at wpexplorer.me is reassuring.

    Resolved!

  10. I was interested in the same thing for the Delicacy theme. I have the CSS upgrade - is there any code that will make it "autoslide"?

  11. No there isn't.

  12. @blondecroatian
That's not possible on a free hosted WordPress.com blog and we cannot edit themes or templates to enable that.

Does the Custom Design upgrade let me edit HTML?
No. The Custom Design upgrade allows you to edit fonts and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup, PHP code, or content. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

The Sight theme is a theme with a featured post slider that does auto-advance but you cannot control the frequency of display. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sight/
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/post-slider/

  13. As timethief mentioned, sliders can't be added to an existing WordPress.com theme that doesn't already include that feature, either through the Custom Design upgrade or in any other way.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to start a new thread. Thanks!
