Functionality of comments field

  1. I haven't been able to find answers on the forums to a few questions I have about comments that people want to post on a blog that I manage -- ubriaco.wordpress.com.

    1. Can a comment include a URL link to an external site?

    2. Can it include a JPG image?

    3. Can it include a link to a PDF that I've put on my blog's media library?

    4. Is there a maximum number of words for the text of a comment?

    4. Would the above answers be different for different themes?

I'll be very grateful for any help with these questions.

    Diane

The blog I need help with is ubriaco.wordpress.com.

  2. You'll find some help on this support page:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/comments/embeds/

and via the links given in Timethief's reply in this thread:

    http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/comment-formatting?replies=4

  3. Thank you! I'd seen the embeds info, but it seems to apply only to YouTube and tweets. The info at the site given in Timethief's reply was negative, unfortunately (my theme isn't one of the ones that allows html in comments), but I figured out a workaround.

  4. 1. Can a comment include a URL link to an external site?
Yes. Note, however, the more links you use, the more likely you are to be thrown into the Spam filter.

    2. Can it include a JPG image?
No, but it can contain a link to it. Only the blog admin can post using images in comments.

    3. Can it include a link to a PDF that I've put on my blog's media library?
Yes, see my answer to 1.

    4. Is there a maximum number of words for the text of a comment?
None that I have seen, and I've seen comments with hundreds of words.

    4. Would the above answers be different for different themes?
    Nope.

  5. You give me good news! -- me and my husband, that is: He's ubriaco (http://ubriaco.wordpress.com), and I'm ubriaca (http://dianescookbooks.wordpress.com), but I do the admin stuff for both our blogs.

I tried to post a friend's comment with a PDF to an item he sent, and it looked to me as if my husband's Kubrik theme wouldn't accept it. But if you say it would, I'll try to use that info next time. Thank you!

    Diane

  6. It probably filtered it out as spam. Look in the Spam filter.
