gallery view changed?

Hello

Does anyone know if WP have changed the way galleries are viewed? It seems they now appear as sideways scroll to view images which seems to overlay the blog page?

Is this standard now?

Yes they were changed and now we have carousel which we cannot disable. Yes it is the “standard” now and do note that the image carousel is still a work in progress.

As you say – its work in progress. I doubt that many people will instantly realise that clicking the permalink button takes you directly to the image.

It seems to me that WP is progressively becoming non intuitive. If a WP engineer reads this they may wish to reflect on the virtues of keeping things simple and easy to use.
