General questions re: domains

  1. Hello,

A few questions about domain names with my blog. I'm going on two years now, so I am looking to make it bigger and better in 2013!

    1. If I purchase my domain, so it is now called http://www.myvermontkitchen.com, will my followers be redirected to the new site?

    2. There already is a website with my blog name. (I didn't check this when I created my blog--that was my error). Would I still be able to purchase the same domain name from WordPress?

    3. Finally, what if I decided to change the name of my blog? Would my followers be redirected, or would I be starting from scratch again?

Thank you all so much for your knowledge and help!
    Chris

The blog I need help with is myvermontkitchen.wordpress.com.

  2. It looks like there are variations of your chosen domain name which are still available: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/myvermontkitchen.com

If you purchase domain mapping (rather than going self-hosted) your blog will still be hosted here on wordpress.com so your followers will still be going to your blog. Mapping a domain is like putting up a sign on the internet that says "VermontKitchen is over there"

    Hi.
I already own a domain and had it redirected to my wordpress blog.
My concern is I want to use mydomain.org.nz instead of mydomain.wordpress.com showing the complete URLs for every page/post in my blog. How do I do this?

  4. The URLs on the visitor's side of the blog will be your domain URLs.

  5. So there is no way I can use "myowndomain"?

  6. instead of mydomain.wordpress.com showing the complete URLs for every page/post in my blog. How do I do this?

Domain map your domain name - then things will look correct

  7. Thank you very much for your help! I'm going to look into this!
