I noticed in the section that explains about wordpress.com that advertising/spam is not allowed. I thought that if you made an interesting site that generated quality return traffic, that it would be possible to get some advertising or affiliate marketing on my page, but now I'm not so sure. Of course I don't know that much on this subject so can someone explain to me how revenue could be produced on a popular wordpress.com blog? Is this at all possible, or do I have to do it myself using wordpress.org?

Generating Revenue with WordPress.com
ahhh, nevermind, upon checking the forums I've found the answer to my question, now I'm en route to wordpress.org!
You don't have a cat in hell's chance of making ANY revenue with a free wordpress.com blog. It goes against the terms of service and will get your blog banned in a matter of seconds after it is discovered.
Those sites that do so are using the VIP program for which they pay a huge monthly fee.
You're better off finding a host and downloading the software from wordpress.org.
I guess I have to edit this post......you figured it out!
yes and yes, thanks!
lol. Good luck for the future! :)
