Getting Starated

  1. So, through my hosting and url companies, have set up WordPress to blog. That took about 4 hours and an on-line conversation with hosting company who were great - unfortunately WordPress staff are on a secret outing and I'm up a creek. I just stumbled upon the dashboard. I'm in tears after three hours at it this morning. I'm no dummy actually have run companies but this has to be easier than this - isn't the idea not to have to hire a programmer??. I have 11 screens open and all say start here or a lot of techno talk that makes no sense to me. And my domain name now has text from WordPress under the name and a bunch of fake junk words that anyone can read. Is there any place that says what to do next that's not full to techno words? I have another blog with another company and thought I'd try this because it gets good press but I'm beginning to regret it - and I thought the other blog program was difficult! I can't be the only human in the world going through this. I just want a next step, next step, next step document and I'm sure I'll be on my way - as long as it's in English. I have two more blogs to start in the next month and would be great if I can learn to do them here.

  2. I don't want to add to your frustration, but you are in the wrong forum and need to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently and our answers typically will not work for you.

That said, this will be a good reference for you: http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page .

Also, I'm going to point you to a support document here that should help you get going without a PHD in Geek. Do note that there are differences between the blog software you are using and the software here, but the general basics (writing and editing posts and pages, settings for the blog, are close to the same.

  3. This is also a useful page for beginners: http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/wordpress/wordpress_start.htm . It is a little thin on details, but it will probably help.
