Getting Themeforest theme into WordPress

    Hello -

    I'm new to this, so have been reading and googling for help, but with no luck yet. I purchased and downloaded a theme from Themefores (this one: http://themeforest.net/item/king-size-fullscreen-background-wordpress-theme/166299), and I guess I was under the impression that there'd be a tool in WordPress to import this. I have now downloaded an FTP client in attempts to get this to work, but as I just set up my domain through WordPress yesterday, I have no idea what to input for the following: host, username, password, port. My WordPress username and password doesn't work for this, so how can I find out what they are? And does one really need an FTP client for WordPress???

    Hi Barbara. There is no FTP access on a WordPress.com blog...
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    ...which means you cannot install themes here.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

    You'll either need to move to a self-hosted WordPress blog or ask Themeforest to give you your money back.

    Ok, getting more confused by the minute here :-).

    What is a self-hosted WordPress blog? I'd really like to use that Themeforest theme for layout.

    Self-hosted WordPress blog = a blog that uses WordPress but that is not hosted by WordPress.com. Read this for more information:

    Ok, so I read through Themeforest stuff again and they clearly sell this as the WordPress version of this theme. So, shouldn't I be able to use my WordPress account with this then?

    Clearly, you read Themeforest's instructions, but did you read the links auxclass and myself gave you?

    You need to understand the difference between WordPress.ORG, WordPress.COM and generic WordPress - theme people assume that you understand the difference.

    Yes, I'm focusing on that right now. I've downloaded that file from WordPress.ORG, but first need to figure out what my domain username and password are so that I can connect to FTP. I got my domain through WordPress.COM, but don't have more information on it really.

    Having the software from wordpress.ORG does you no good unless you hire a web hosting company such as bluehost, dreamhost, etc., and then install and configure that wordpress.ORG software on that web host.

    You cannot install a theme from outside of wordpress.COM onto a site hosted here at wordpress.COM no matter what you do.

    The theme you bought is for a self-hosted wordpress.ORG installation on a third-party hosting service.

    The theme you bought is not for a site hosted here at wordpress.COM.

    If you self-host (figure $20 to $25 per month all things considered) you will be responsible for all installations, all upgrades, all backups (including the MySQL database), and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, you have to figure it out and fix it.

    There is no FTP access here at wordpress.COM.
