.GIF files aren't animated on my page after i upload them?

  • I just uploaded some .gif (animated image) files from my desktop to my site, but they just display as static images, not animaged/.gif-type images. Does wordpress need special widget or code for displaying animated .gif’s? Should I setup a flickr account and just link from there?

    Thanks in advance!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • EDIT: just to be clear, it is only static/stationary when viewing it from, say, my latest-posts page. If I actually open the page, it is animated.
(as in, I’m trying to make an animated gif as my site’s homepage, but when i setup a page w/ nothing more than the gif, and set it as my homepage under navigation, it doesn’t show as animated when you go to my site. You have to click on the static image to go to its page, where it is then animated.)

You must presize every .gif to fit into the exact space you want it to display in, as cropping means the animation will be lost.

  • I didn’t crop it though. If I make a post, it works fine. If I make a page in the same manner, w/ the intent to make that my static homepage, it doesn’t show it as animated til you click it (see here: http://grublet01.wordpress.com/homepage/ If you go to the post though, it’s animated w/o having to click it. When i submit it as ‘page’, it’s not animated..

  • This has nothing to do with post vs page. TTTS wrote “cropping” but she meant resizing. Your GIF is 600p wide but instead of selecting the full-size option you selected the medium option and inserted a 300p version of the image.

  • Thanks justpi. Of course, you are right. I typed the wrong word.
