LightBox is plug-in all blogs need even more than "Snap Shots" I hate that every time I have to put some picture in my blog entrie I already know that people will have to navigate away from my blog entry just becouse we dan't have LoghtBox.
Please add lightbox!

I had lightbox on my self-hosted blog for a while and it caused issues so I removed it. I had quite a few people say that it would not work for them when they went to my blog.

First of all there already is a major thread around here asking for NextGen Lightbox. Can't seem to find it at the moment.
It seems that there will be changes to how images are handled somewhere around the next version of WP, unfortunately not the one being released on December 4 in the US. No specifics though.
If not Lighbox, then an alternative will be welcome and appreciated. I'm just about starting Photoshop tutorial blog and plugin similar to Lightbox will help much for showing galleries or samples. Will this be a matter if added to WP?

Opening a new window means either a new tab (if the browser supports it) or a new window (same size as where it came from?) opens. In either case the reader "leaves" the blog and his or her attention is drawn away in a way I don't like.
A workaround would be a new window <i>with pre-defined size</i> -- which is not only complicated (I need webspace to host these) but also not possible today (to open such a pre-defined window one needed javascript -- which is not supported at wordpress.com).
The general question is: Why does wordpress.com not support de-facto standards like Lightbox?
