GODADDY, HOSTING, AND 'NOT FOUND' PAGE

    Hey guys,

I am feeling thoroughly annoyed at the moment. I have signed up for:

    * Domain name + Hosting from godaddy (acumulating 80 dollars)
    * WordPress.com account

...and so far I cannot FOR THE LOVE OF GOD get into any kind of admin stuff with godaddy. Seriously. Does anyone not bother writing a concise solution to this? Every time I go onto the whole admin thing i.e. domainname/wordpress, it comes up with PAGE NOT FOUND on my blog.

WHAT IN THE NAME OF CHRIST IS GOING WRONG HERE?! I have installed EVERYTHING as planned and told to do, even using godaddy's own WordPress application, but NO LUCK.

ANYONE. CAN ANYONE HELP ME? I am ripping my hair out.

The blog I need help with is ladygagaisthevirus.com.

  2. First off, there is absolutely no connection between godaddy and wordpress.COM WordPress.COM is a free hosting service.

If you are setting up the blog at godaddy, then you need to be asking over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted blogs are supported.

First, it can take up to 72 hours for a new domain name to work after you register it since it takes time for the DNS settings to make it through all the internet nameservers. Typically this happens in 24 hours, but sometimes it is longer. Until that propagation is done, you will not be able to access the backend of the blog.

After about 24 hours or so, you should be able to sign into the blog using the username and password that you got during the installation.

  3. And just for reference, this sticky thread explains the differences between wordpress.COM and .ORG: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1 .

Thank you, but it is impossible to set up a .ORG account! I don't see any information about it anywhere!! No sign up or anything! How are you meant to get a .ORG account? Thank you. By the way the domain name is working perfectly!

  5. And you may want to read the links that were left on the other thread you posted. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/help-with-running-a-server-for-blog-24-hour-hosting?replies=5

I have read that Jennifer but nobody seems to be answering the very simple question:

HOW DO YOU SIGN UP FOR A DOT ORG ACCOUNT?

  7. To post questions in the.ORG forum, yes you have to register for an account. At http://wordpress.org/support/ it is in the bluish-grey band near the top on the right side, see where it says, "register?"

  8. In case you cannot find the register link I talked about, here it is: http://wordpress.org/support/register.php .

  9. Please stop the SHOUTING! before we all lose patience with your demanding and rude behavior and choose to and ignore you completely.

Go to this support forum and look at the top right hand corner and click the "register" link. http://wordpress.org/support/register.php

Then ask them for support > http:..wordpress.ORG/support/

  10. @TSP
    Sorry about the echo. :(

    NO NO NO NO NO.

    LOOK. This isn't rocket science.

There is a .COM and a .ORG. I want to sign up for a WORDPRESS.ORG ACCOUNT SO I CAN START USING A .ORG ACCOUNT FOR THE CUSTOM SERVER THINGY. I have a .COM but it can't be customised so I need a .ORG.

For the love of god somebody here must know?

  12. We have given you the lwordpress.ORG register for an account link ink twice now.
    Use it > http://wordpress.org/support/register.php

And stop the SHOUTING! It's only a blog. This is not the end of the earth and you are acting like you need to get offline for awhile and breathe some fresh air.

Can you get a BLOG by registering with that? Thank you!

  14. FOR A SELF-HOSTED BLOG AT GODADDDY, WE CANNOT HELP YOU FROM HERE AT WORDPRESS.COM. THAT IS AS CLEAR AS I CAN POSSIBLY MAKE IT.

WORDPRESS BLOGS HOSTED ON THIRD-PARTY SITES SUCH AS GODADDY ARE SUPPORTED AT WORDPRESS.ORG'S FORUMS, NOT HERE. THAT IS AS CLEAR AS I CAN POSSIBLY MAKE IT.

WE KNOW VIRTUALLY NOTHING ABOUT SELF-HOSTED BLOGS HERE AT WORDPRESS.COM. WE KNOW ABOUT THE MULTI-USER WORDPRESS.COM SERVICE. THAT IS WHAT WE SUPPORT HERE.

GO TO .ORG FOR SUPPORT ON A GODADDY HOSTED WORDPRESS BLOG.

If you have stuff on the blog her you need to transfer over, then see this support document here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org .

  15. To host a blog at godaddy, the software from wordpress.ORG has to be installed on that hosting account. Godaddy has a one-button install you can use over there, but you will have to talk with godaddy about where that button is. I am unfamiliar with their service.

The other option, if the wordpress software has not been installed on the account yet is for you to install it using an FTP client. You can find instructions for doing that at wordpress.ORG (where you would get the software).

  16. Read and register. Wait for the email to arrive. Then proceed to http:/wordpress.ORG/support and ask all your questions there.

Your issues are not wordpress.COM issues. We Volunteers do not provide support for any bloggers other than those who have free blogs from wordpress.COM which are being free hosted by wordpress.COM.

You have reached the end of the line here.

  17. Also, give us your new domain name so that we can at least take a look. Right now we aren't even sure if the domain name has propagated, or if the wordpress software has been installed. If we can see the domain, perhaps we can get a clearer picture.

You have all been USELESS in helping me. I have wasted good time and money because of your ignorance.

    Cretins.

  19. @peacock, we just know virtually nothing about godaddy and the wordpress.ORG software. We never directly work with the software. All installations, all upgrades, all troubleshooting and setup is done by staff in the background.

We sign up for a blog here, and staff does all the rest. We log into our dashboard and start blogging.

With a self-hosted blog, all the installation, setup, upgrades, backups, and troubleshooting have to be done by you. There is no connection between wordpress.COM and self-hosted wordpress blogs.

You first off need to contact godaddy and see if they installed the wordpress software for you. If they did, somewhere in the information you received from them is the wordpress login information. If they did NOT install it, ask them to tell you where to go in your web hosting account to install it. The installation, assuming they have the "one button install" is painless and just requires a few simple answers from you during the process.

There is a lot of confusion surrounding wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG, and we deal with that confusion constantly.

The forum where you are going to get help with this self-hosted blog on godaddy is at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ . That is where the software was created, and they are the ones that know it well. Please go there and ask your questions.

  20. @peacockarmageddon Their replies have been straight forward and to the point they may not be the answer you wanted to hear or was looking for but in the long run the information was useful in the matter of registering over @ WordPress.ORG.
