I have a successful free blog with a page rank of 4:

However, I am starting to consider going self hosted, but I am loathe to lose links and lose pagerank by doing so. Is there any way I can do this?

You will not lose the links. You may lose Page Rank, but only temporarily, and most likely only until the next Page rank update which is in three months time. There is no way not to lose Page Rank.
