Google as referrer?

  1. I'm just a bit curious on how I've got google.com as referrer and it doesn't display the entire search results link?

  2. What happens when you hover over the google.com link? What URL comes up in the information bar at the bottom of your browser?

  3. i get this same thing happening in my other wpmu blog too... it's just plain google.com.

  4. What happens when you hover over the google.com link? What URL comes up in the information bar at the bottom of your browser?

It just comes up as Google, just like sulz says. :)

    http://www.google.com/

  5. That's the Feeling Lucky button being used over at Google.com. Instead of going to a page of results, Google just forwards you on to the first site that comes up.

At least that's what I'm thinking.

  6. That would make sense. I completely forgot about that. Thanks drmike. :)

  7. Not a problem. :)

  8. gee, i didn't know that! interesting...

  9. I have seen this google referrer several times on my blog too so thanks to drmike I can now fathom why.

  10. i'm wondering, though, if it leads to my site, does that mean i would be the first in the search results if the person had chosen the search button instead? or it's just a random hit to my blog ..

  11. I think the "get lucky" may be a random choice but I'm hoping that it was because my blog was at the top of the list on the subject being searched for. :)

Edit: I also get technorati search hits. Interestingly enough they increased after I removed all the technoratit tags from my 757 re-catalogued posts. Isn't that strange?

  12. Interesting. I haven't seen a google referral in several months, not one. AOL is all over the stats page, though.

  13. I've get AOL, Dogpile and Yahoo. Also the environmental reporter from the New York Times is a frequent referrer lately. I get more from stumbleupon and from mybloglog than from all the others though.

  14. I'm getting AOL hits as well lately.

Um, the "feel lucky" result would be because you're listed as the number #1 return for that search.

Yes! I'm listed first for something! ;)

I've been getting heaps of aol searches too. And live image searches.
