Google Books Clip Feature

  • Is anybody else that uses this feature having issues with images or passages failing to fully load ? Like the provided and embedded link is somehow no longer fully recognized?

My blog is half historian based, so these “clippings” from older public domain books have been quite useful and I’ve used them with some frequency. They now fail to load even on archived entries they have long worked fine on.

    Thoughts or experiences appreciated.

Does no one else use this feature?

A seeming change has literally crippled (without the images the accompanying text is without context) my archives in numbers, and I am hoping someone in this community may have insights or potential solutions.

  • Yes!

I posted this twice now and have gotten no response. About 40% of the images on my blog have suddenly gone broken. The URLs still work. I can still see the clipped image the way I want it when I put the URL in my address bar.

The clipped images pop up correctly in the post editor but not on the published site–insanely frustrating!

  • I looked at your site, and we are definitely having the same problem. WordPress is putting a little “i0.wp.com/” before the proper Google Books URL, and that’s breaking the image display.

    mine is chequamegonhistory.wordpress.com

  • Same, same – And yes extremely frustrating!

Confirmation, now how to / who might determine if the bug is on the WP or the google books end of things, and how might it be corrected?

  • It isn’t a Google Books problem because I’ve done the same thing with some other public domain newspapers that have the zooming/clipping feature, and the same thing is happening.
