  1. Haha it did though, ok it looked odd but it did work, but if its on a page it won't be shown in the sidebar will it?

If i use the 200x200 one, how do I get the writing to be visible that's currently not on the late evenings posting.

  2. Haha it did though, ok it looked odd but it did work, but if its on a page it won't be shown in the sidebar will it?

Right, it won't be in the sidebar if it's not in the sidebar. ;)

Try using 250x250 just so you take up the maximum width space, you might need to stretch it width-wise to 250x500 just to see the text though.

  3. lol exactly ;-)

Ok, shall try those dimensions and see if the 'late text' shows tomorrow...

    Watch this space tomorrow!

  4. Hi, Ok, changed the dimensions (Incidentally, the 800x600 worked again, but didn't look right, so changed it again) I have changed it too 500x300, but the columns don't seem to be showing the text....how do I resolve this problem please....? Is it the dimensions still....thought it would be something to do with the columns themselves not the actual dimensions of the outside of the calendar....or do the column size change with the dimension change of the overall calendar..?

  5. It has to do with the space the calendar is smashed into. There's no way the calendar can be wide enough to display all of the text in that narrow sidebar.

  6. Had a feeling you were going to say that! So....the text of Holby City and the time, how do i resolve the problem and get it visible in the columns....any idea, ie I have a feeling that if i resort to the normal dimensions, it still wont be seen....?

Thanks in advance - as usual.

  7. Right, the sidebar is just too narrow for what you want to do with the calendar.

Have you considered using the Upcoming Events widget instead?

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/upcoming-events/

  8. Right, ok....Hm, there is a couple of options then I can see as substitute, ie using the agenda section of the calendar, or the link you've just shown me, which I haven't yet read but will do. Just thought the calendar would look more nicer and professional.

So all in all, what I want, wont work in the calendar settings....? So how do people manage when they put alsorts in the columns...?

  9. So all in all, what I want, wont work in the calendar settings....?

That is correct, your sidebar is too narrow to accomodate that.

So how do people manage when they put alsorts in the columns...?

Most folks embed calendars in Pages or Posts, not the sidebar.

  10. And I use the RSS widget and put the feed for my Google calendar in that.

  11. @macmanx OK,... I did start with a page... and then resorted to the calendar widget...so how does that work then....you do a page/post, add the calendar....and then..? just put it as a menu at the top?

@raincoaster...ive heard of this RSS widget, but have no idea on how to use it?

    Thank you.

  12. No, just publish a page and embed the calendar in the page content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-calendar/

  13. Ive followed the instructions of that text widget and the same still happens...? :(

  14. RIght, because like we mentioned before, the sidebar is very narrow and the widget has to display in that narrow space. There is no room for it to display the calendar with the date content.

If you want it to be wide enough to display everything, you need to place the calendar in a page, not a widget.

  15. Ah right, sorry my mistake, I thought you meant that was for the google Calendar to the widget and slip in the embed code... I was referring now to the page way of doing it, which seem to conclude the same way...?

Whilst I am here can I quickly ask about how to get the word 'Blog' on my current menu and then on each page have the date (ive seen the date in red as they are on calendars?) there as some users do? I've also seen people using the 'blog' on the menu and adding the date....if I see an example I shall see if I can show you?

  16. Can you give me a link to the page with the calendar?

You can create your own custom menu following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

  17. http://guyhenryfans.wordpress.com/calendar/

It shows on the page itself, but when i put it into the text widget it shows exactly as it did before.

I will have a look at the link you gave me too, thank you, any problems and I will let you know about that.

  18. Right, because it's still in a text widget in the sidebar, which is still narrow, that will never change.

However, the calendar displays just fine in the page itself, which is what I meant.

  19. Right, ok, apologies, so the calendar remains as a page only..? I was under the impression, the page then went into the sideboard? Before I did the calendar on google, the put a widget into the sidebar and then put the embed code into the widget, which obviously didn't work.... Then I tried the page bit, which I assumed then went into the widget that way....

So the widget is removed from the sidebar is it, and the calendar remains on the page and the page is renamed the calendar? Is that what you are saying and how it works?

  20. So the widget is removed from the sidebar is it, and the calendar remains on the page and the page is renamed the calendar? Is that what you are saying and how it works?

Exactly, keep the calendar on http://guyhenryfans.wordpress.com/calendar/ (which is a page) and remove the widget. :)

  21. Hi, ok, then you put the calendar into the menu....? When I looked this morning however, via iPad safari, the calendar widget in the sidebar was actually expanding to show the calendar...I'm sincerely hoping that the link below shows the screen cap of it.... How's this happened?

    <img src="http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a55/SharonHarvey2/c009d8b2fe34cbe1eec5a389db195a39_zps990d355b.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos" />">Calendar<img src="http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a55/SharonHarvey2/c009d8b2fe34cbe1eec5a389db195a39_zps990d355b.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos" />

  22. Right, the theme has a slightly different display on an iPad, but that will only be a very small percentage of your viewers.

You can add pages to your menu following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

  23. Ok, thanks, gonna have to re think this one then, as I really like the calendar being at the side there.

Yes I've found the custom menus.....what I'm wanting to know is, I've seen on some people's sites (&I'm hoping its WordPress sites as I can't find an example to show you) the word 'blog' on the menu but when you click on the page, the word blog isn't there BUT the calendar number is, and I'm hoping the link below will reveal this image of what I mean, without the word calendar below!

How do I achieve this please?

    Thanks.

  24. Hoping this will work instead!!

    Calendar image

  25. That's a photo of apple's Calendar app in the dock, not something on a blog.

Do you have an example of this on a blog?

  26. Yes I know it is, I was merely showing you the image I see on blogs. No, I'm still looking for one :(

  27. @macmanx I've been told I can do it via the CSS section...?

  28. No, CSS styles existing elements, it doesn't really add elements.

  29. Hey, this is what this person added regards the above.

'There are options for custom HTML and CSS within WordPress'

    Is this right?

  30. Within a self-hosted WordPress installation, yes.

At WordPress.com, you can only modify CSS.
