Google+ - Link your website

  1. I have tried to link my website to Google+, so it will display on the right when searching for my website. However, I can't get it to work.

I have put on the code in a text widget and Google acknowledges the test was successful, but it never gets further than this.

    Any idea?

The blog I need help with is harryhill.wordpress.com.

  2. so it will display on the right when searching for my website.

So you mean you want this on your above site, not in Google search returns, yes?

I assume you do not mean the link at the top of the page which appears to be working correctly because when I click on it I'm taken to your Google+ Profile.

If that doesn't answer your question, please let me know.

  3. No, I mean on Google.

On Google+, if you put a personalised link to your website (just to show that you are who you say you are), it will link your website to your Google+ profile, so when your website is searched for on Google, it will show your site as normal on the left and your Google+ profile on the right.

I have put the personalised link in a text widget as the last widget on the right hand column, but it doesn't appear to be doing the job.

  4. Is this what you mean?

Linking to your Google+ Profile creates an official connection between your WordPress.com content and your Google+ account. The benefit? It adds a layer of verification, confirming you are the author of your posts, and helps Google understand who created certain pages, which helps to increase the accuracy of search results.

In some cases, Google may also use this information to make your posts stand out more in search results by including your Google+ Profile information next to your listing.

If so, then please follow the steps outlined in the first support document linked in the WordPress.com News post: http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-plus-profile/ .

  5. No.

Here is the bit from Google:

By adding a short line of code to http://xxx, you can make your Google+ page eligible to show up on the right hand side of the Google search page for relevant queries and make your Google+ page more discoverable. Learn more
Ask your site's webmaster to add the following line of code to your site's homepage:
    <a href="https://plus.google.com/xxx" rel="publisher">Google+</a>

  6. Ah! We finally get there. :)

That would be the Google+ icon. See here: http://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/2013/09/28/google-plus-connecting-to-pages-and-profiles/

  7. Thanks - I've given that a try and will see if it works to connect up my site to Google+.

  8. Unfortunately, this has not worked and has not connected my site to Google. Google is reporting that the code is not on the page.

    Any ideas?

  9. Log into Google before you open this page https://developers.google.com/+/web/badge/

The Google+ user line will automatically be filled out on that page.

Then, under Features choose the icon option. This is important because the badge will not work on WordPress.com.

Choose the size icon you want to appear in your sidebar.

Copy the code exactly as it appears in the box under the icon and paste it into a Text Widget in your sidebar.

    Save your widget.

If that still doesn't work, let me know.
