Google webmaster tools verification repeatedly fails.

    Hi there, I have added the content of the html file given to me by google in the inputbox on wordpress - tools - webmaster tools verification.

    I have tried with and without the prefix google and without the suffix .html.

    It repeatedly fails - google says it cannot find the file when you click on the link to the file from Google input box.

    This verification file needs to go into the root of the site - so I can't add it to a post aswell.

    Please help! Thanks!

    The site linked to your name is not a WordPress.COM blog - we need the link to the blog you are asking about to give you accurate help.

    This forum is for help with sites hosted on WordPress.COM.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your reply - I've updated my profile links to include our wordpress.com blog address.

    Yes, the error occurs when using the Webmaster tools verification tool for Google on the wordpress.com dashboard.

    When you are using Google Webmasters are you selecting
    1. The Alternate Method tab.
    2. Add a meta tag to your site's home page
    3. Copy: all of the "meta tag" angle bracket to angle bracket?

    then paste in your WP.com dashboard per instructions

    Thanks for that I was using the code from the html file method - it's working now.
