Gravitars / Avatars?

  1. Ok...I am puzzed and would appreciate anyone who can explain for me how to get rid of that silly red quilt block you see next to my name here. I tried last night to add a gravatar to my name and with success now see that image next to the "my account" but when I post here on the forums I still have my assigned "quilt block".

What did I miss? and how do I get my gravatar to show up on post here?

The blog I need help with is tfockler60.wordpress.com.

  2. Oh and yes before you tell me to check out the FAQ section, I did already. :)

  3. It's called a blavatar. The Blog Picture (or Blavatar as we like to call it) allows you to upload a picture to be used as your blog image across WordPress.com. This image will be used as the favicon you see to the left of the URL in the address bar and for any pingbacks or trackbacks sent out from your blog.

If you would like to remove a blog’s Blavatar, visit Settings > General. In the Blog Picture area on the right side, click the Remove Image button.

  4. I'm so sorry I think I misread what you were expressing. There is always as delay when we change gravatars. If you are experiencing problems then go to the gravatar site http://en.gravatar.com/ and read the FAQs as it contains common questions and answers to them http://en.gravatar.com/site/faq/ Today I see the "quilt block" has be replaced by a small image of a woman. :)

  5. Time, thanks for that info but, nope doesn't work. I have a photo uploaded in there already but I am still getting this red quilt block when I post here.

Also the photo I have there is different from the picture I have next to "my account".

Are we talking about the same things here?

  6. Oh and I also get a different blavatar, avatar, gravitar when I reply to a comment on my blog. Its a little monster kinda dude.

  7. That's because you've set your blog to display monster avatars. I see you've uploaded an avatar; if you do a quick forum search, you'll find that avatars take some time to show up, and usually show up in the forum first, then on your blog. Just wait it out.

  8. Thanks Rain, I have no problem waiting it out. :) just as long as I know I didn't screw it up. lol. Now I just have to figure out how to change that blog display...grrrrr to many pictures in to many places for a blond to cope with.

  9. @tfockler60

Now I just have to figure out how to change that blog display ...

You can change the avatar, gravatar and identicon display on this page > Settings > Discussion

Some bloggers assume gravatars will be displayed in their posts. This is not the case and I don't know why anyone would want to view a column of posts depicting their gravatar but some do like that appearance.

Once you configure your avatar, you’ll see it when you post to the forums, when you comment on blogs, and with any post displayed in WordPress.com’s community features. http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/gravatars/

Take note that gravatars will not display on blogs that are not avatar equipped and on blogs that are gravatar equipped when bloggers have chosen not to display them on comments.

  10. I also recommend checking out Whys My Gravatar Not Displaying for a better understanding about Gravatar.

  11. Hello Again and still seeking help for the same problem as above, I have my Gravatar picture showing in my profile and it shows up in the left corner, but when I leave comments on other blogs I still show up as a black and white QUILT. I'm an old drywaller, not a comfy quilt! Does this sweet lady's answere, answere mine too? Do I just need to wait it out? Thank You, again, Glenn.

  12. @Glen
Below are the best practices for uploading a gravatar at the gravatar site http://en.gravatar.com/
    (1) Prepare the image prior to uploading it and make sure it’s no larger than 128 pixels X 128 pixels square.

    (2) The image filetype has to be either PNG, GIF or JPG. Make sure the file name contains only letters and numbers – no special characters – and make sure all letters are in lowercase.

    (3) Also make sure the image file name has an extension (Example – image.jpg)

    (4) Note that there is a time delay while your gravatar image propagates.

    (5) If you are experiencing problems then read the FAQs as it contains common questions and answers to them > http://en.gravatar.com/site/faq/

  13. Thank you and bless you again! Yes, propagation.....I'll wait for that and see what happens! Bless You, Glenn.

  14. If you have read all those answers to FAQs and none apply then waiting makes sense. If you have not read them then please click through and do that now, okay?

  15. @glenn @tfockler60 - be sure to check back in here so we can mark this as resolved, as well! :)
