I had a ping that went into my spam folder but I clicked on it (I know, I know) and it actually looks really good, but I've never heard of the site which is called Scoop It. Is anyone familiar with it? Is it real or junk or what?

Yes, I've heard of it. It's like Delicious or Tumblr: a place where people post links to things they think are interesting. I wouldn't worry about it.
