Hello there, I was under the impression that I can start my blog with you guys & then be able to make a membership site with it since the company integrates well with your company. But now that I am trying to link the two I can not! It says something like it cannot connect to server! I also do not find plug in option on wordpress.com. I am quite confused please help!

You can't have plugins on a WordPress.com blog. The article above and the links in it will explain why and what you can do about it.

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot intsall plugins, upload third-party themes or edit templates or themes. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.
