Header disappeared

  1. I wanted a new look at my site and chose the Nishita theme. When I tested it to see what it looked like, it came up with the header I was using previously using Twenty Ten, a person walking down a road with threes on either side. (This header always appears with Twenty Ten when looking through the Theme site.) It worked very well with Nishita. Then when I activated the new theme the header disappeared. How can I find this again?

I went back to Twenty Ten and applied it to my site and it came up just as I had it in the past but the header was different. Is there a way I can find this header again and apply it to the Nishita theme?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is mertonocso.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi. Your header would be in your Media Library.

But a header image doesn't remain in place when you change theme, because it needs to be in different dimensions. You've got to re-upload it from your computer, ideally after you resize it in an image editing application to the exact pixel dimensions the new theme requires.

  4. The header is not in my Media Library and never was as far as I recall. It seems to have come along when I chose the Twenty Ten theme.

You say that the header does not remain when you change the theme, but this one did when I previewed it. Had it not been there I would not have activated it because that header is just what I want.
    Thanks.

If you mean one of the default header images of 2010, these are part of the theme - again they cannot be automatically transferred when you change theme.

If you want one of those images, you can find them here:
    https://wpcom-themes.svn.automattic.com/twentyten/images/headers/
Copy to your computer, upload in Appearance>Header.

  6. Thanks, I was able to find it but now have to get it to the site. Now to get it to the site. Thanks.

  7. I got it to the site but I find there is a rather large empty space above it which I do not know how to remove. Help again please.

As I said above, "you've got to re-upload it from your computer, ideally after you resize it in an image editing application to the exact pixel dimensions the new theme requires." Now you can see why.

A header image for Nishita must be 1024x295 pixels. If you can't do it, I can do it for you. (But it will lose some quality, as it must become larger than the original.)

  9. Got it the way I want it. Thanks so much for the help.
