Header Issue / Date Circle in Reddle Theme

  1. Hi,

    I'm very new to this and have never designed a website before so I would really appreciate some help.

    I've uploaded a jpeg image which I want to use as my header (which can be seen on my website). However, the image keeps getting streched therefore the logo and text are skewed. I have no idea how I can fix it.

    Secondly, date field next to posts appears to be in a square rather than circle. Is there any way of changing it?

    Thank you

    The blog I need help with is purelywholesomelife.com.

  2. Also, when I hover over the navigation bar I want the text to change to the same pink colour as the line below the bar. Does anyone know how to do it? Thank you

  3. Hi Monika

    Firstly, the header image is only stretched for people using Internet Explorer 8 (or older) like you are. The square date field is again only a problem in IE8.

    IE8 is an old browser that very few people use and has both bugs and missing features in its layout engine. Please visit http://browsehappy.com/ and look into your options for a better web browser so that you can see your site the way most of your visitors do. :)

    Finally, the link hover color in your menu is a nice small piece of CSS that you can add:

    .menu > li > a:hover {
        background-color: #f8b3ae;
    }
  4. Thanks Matt!

    I've got another couple of questions. When you go to my website and go the menu at the top then food then another few categories come up, you can only see half of the tab and text (I presume the text is white that's why you can't see it). Is there a way of changing it so the whole tab is grey not just half of it?

    And also, at the bottom of each post there is the category box e.g. 'Posted in Nutrition' which appears in black box. Is there a way of changing the box to white so it appears like the rest of the post?

    Many thanks!

    That's happening because of this custom CSS rule you added:

    #access ul li {
    	float: none;
    	display:inline-block;
    	width:139px
    }

    You can counterbalance the width set for li elements there by setting the width for submenu items only back to "auto" by adding this just below that rule:

    #access ul li li {
    	width: auto;
    }

    This should do the trick:

    .taxonomy-links {
    	background-color: #fff;
    }
    .taxonomy-links,
    .taxonomy-links a,
    .taxonomy-links a:visited,
    .post-edit-link {
    	color: #000;
    }
  7. Thanks guys!! That's a great help!

    I've got another question... hopefully last one!

    I've downloaded some free social media icons (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc.) and want to add them to my website so they appear in the left hand side of the website (on the black background). I want them to be displayed vertically in a column so when you click on the icon it takes you to the facebook website etc. I have tried various css codes but the icons just don't appear on the website. Would you be able to help??

    Thank you

  8. In order to add clickable social media icons to the left side of the page on any theme, you have to ad icons somewhere on the page first using some other method like the about.me widget or a text widget.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/about-me/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/

    Once you've added the icons, reply back here and I can show you the CSS you would need to use to move them to another spot on the page.

  9. Thank you

    I've added the social icons to my about.me page now. However, now page has gone from a single column page to a two column page. Is it possible to have it like it was previously, so that the social icons are positioned in the left hand side of the main column, on the black background and my bio picture is positioned on the black background to the right hand side of the column.

    Also, is it possible to change the social icons to the ones I have downloaded? I want mine to be plain/simple white?

    Thanks a lot for your help!

  10. a) If you want to use the icons you have downloaded, better use a Text widget.
    b) As designsimply explained, once you add the icons you can use CSS to reposition them.
    c) But, icons on the left side bg and picture on the right side bg? You should probably reconsider. The left and right bg areas don't have a fixed width: on lower resolution screens and mobile devices there's pretty little of those areas.

  11. Here are some more detailed steps to get you a better start.

    First, upload your custom images to media library and then add them inside links inside a text widget.

    You can add the text widget to the first footer area. Once it's showing up on the page, right-click on the widget area and select the "Inspect Element" option. That should pull at the HTML for what you click done as well as all of the CSS that applies to it. You will need to find the "ID" attribute for the text widget that you added. It will be something like "text-33" only your ID value will be something other than 33.

    To reposition that element, you can use some CSS like this:

    #page {
    	position: relative;
    }

    #YOUR_TEXT_WIDGET_ID {
    	position: absolute;
    	top: 80px;
    	left: -90px;
    }

    Replace YOUR_TEXT_WIDGET_ID with the id value for the text widget where you added your social media icons.

    You will need to adjust the "top" and "left" values to position the icons where you want them. Also note that if you had some icons you may need to add a width value to the block.
