header/appearance

  1. I uploaded a theme, left the original css script, and loaded my header. Yet, the header does not appear... Suggestions?

The blog I need help with is lifepass.wordpress.com.

Suggestion 1: Always paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your nickname to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We usually need that to give a relevant answer.

Suggestion 2: You've tried cropping the image in the uploader, but this doesn't work now. You need to prepare a copy in the exact dimensions specified by the theme and upload that copy.

  3. Panos,
Have you (or anyone else) asked support about this issue of the "cropping the image in the uploader" not working? This has been happening for a while, but it's not occurred to me to ask staff until this minute. I know cropping used to work. But now it just does not. But I only try it in my test blog. So then I forget about the problem.

  4. I'm curious about the blogger's first 4 words, so perhaps lifepass will be kind enough to provide a link to the blog in question.

  5. Right! http://www.lifepass.wordpress.com
I created a header to match the dimensions required for this particular theme.

@Tess: I don't think staff can possibly be unaware of the problem. Anyway, I haven't told them - maybe thesacredpath has.

@ellaella: Keep in mind that I only answer questions if I've checked the blog. I always try the nick as blogname first: if I find a wp.com blog with the symptom in question, I mention the need for a link but I answer; if I find no blog, I ask for a link without answering the question.

@lifepass: Are you sure you tried to upload a 500x225 px image? The source code of your page says you have uploaded this:
    http://lifepass.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/cropped-lifepass_logo022.gif
It wouldn't say "cropped" if the image was in the right dimensions.

  7. @penaaghhiotisadam - Keep in mind that not every blogger reads every word of every post or provides a link the first time it's asked for.

Your condescension -- toward me and others -- is neither warranted nor welcome. Believe it or not, you are not a moderator. I've had it.

@ellaella: Your reaction is really incomprehensible to me. Please read my above response again: I simply tried to let you know that if you see an answer from me, it means I have already checked the blog - no condescension, no nothing.

  9. Panos, I don't think they are unaware, but they have not told us anything. I have not been vigilant enough to ask for an explanation from them myself. And none of the "regulars" has really said anything about getting an official explanation. Nor has any one of the people with the problem mentioned any official explanation. Seems in many ways they depend on all of us wonderful volunteers—some more efficient than others, but all trying to be helpful.

  10. ella,
It could be my state of mind, but I have often checked lately if "NAME.wordpress.com" is a person we can help or not. Then I'll say something along the lines of what panos said, instructing the new-be to post a link or link to name. Then answering the question for the original poster with a link or otherwise.
I would agree that he can be blunt, but never unkind.

  11. thanks. the name of the image is what I saved it as originally (before loading. It looks like the css is overriding the script that calls the image, so I will be doing some changes here and see if it all works out.

Sorry? If you have applied CSS customization, then the uploader doesn’t work: you have to paste the image URL into the appropriate spot in the CSS.

  13. hi all, I'm just wondering is it possible to up-size the custom header image? it's too small for me somehow (=

  14. Suggestion 1: Always paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your nickname to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We usually need that to give a relevant answer.

  15. Another similar question, my blog is http://sportsstatsanalysis.wordpress.com/. Right below my header, there are a couple links, "home" and "about." I'm wondering if and how I can add more links along the top. Thanks!

  16. My tagline on my header has moved down to my links Home and about. It looks bad. Why has it slipped from my Header?

    Hope anyone can help!
