help! back to main website from blog

  1. Hello all!

I made a blog to go with a new website that i am creating.
I am using the sandbox template and custom css.

My question is how do I put a back to home button or a link to my main website: http://www.inhousecreativegroup.com,
that would fit in the header area and not in the sidebar area?

if anyone knows how to help let me know asap!
if anyone need more info to help me, i would gladly provided the information.

    Thanks!

  2. can anyone help me? or am i not clear about what i want to do?

  3. There is a sort of trick that can be done, but I've never done it and the person who is very familiar with it isn't in the forums right now, but I'll give it a guess.

What you have to do is use the HTML code for a link as the name of a new blank page that you create, and the name actually has to either have two words, or it has to have a space at the end of the word that is going to appear as the link in the nav bar. This as I understand it works better in some themes than others.

You will title your page like this:

<a href="URL of the webpage">name you want to appear in the tab </a>

  4. Do realize that since I'm guessing I make no warranty, expressed or implied.

  5. where would i put the code? in the header?

  6. You put it as the title of the page that you create. Do not put anything in the body of the page, just create a page with the code I have shown as a title (changing of course the URL and the text that I have as placeholders).

  7. first must admit that my code is messy and i guess im not getting it but where would i put it in the code that i am providing?

  8. That is the CSS, you don't put it in the CSS.

    1. Go to your dashboard

    2. Go to pages > add new

    3. In the title field at the top put the code I gave you (with the correct link and text you want to appear in the tab)

    4. Publish the page.

    5. Go to your blog's main page and the new tab should be there.

    6. Click on the new tab, and if everything was entered correctly in the code you put into the title area it should take you to your website.

  9. ok now i got it but when i did that but when i went to the blog there isn't any tabs to be seen?
    http://inhouseinsights.wordpress.com/

Is that because of the css or the template that i made?

Also thanks for putting up with my questions, i am new to the blog world!

  10. You'll need to add the page widget.

  11. oh ok i did that and now i see it.
    http://inhouseinsights.wordpress.com/

I want it to go underneath the header of my blog(like horizontal navigation) so that that people can recognize it better.

Is there anyway to achieve this with css? or am i just dreaming the impossible?

  12. That is going to be a question for devblog. He is about the only one around here with mondo experience with CSS and especially with Sandbox. If it can be done, he can do it.

  13. I forgot to mention, he's around the forum and hopefully he will drop in on this thread.

  14. I drop a link in another thread I saw devblog, in so hopefully it caches his attention

  15. Thanks, TSP.

    madisonwest,

The "old" version of Sandbox, which is the one you're currently using, has 7 different skins. Six of them don't have the top navigation bar. You're using one of those six... To be able to get the top navigation bar, you need to select the seventh (last) skin whose title reads "No Stylesheet" (that's the only skin that doesn't have a preview, btw).

After you've selected that skin, in you CSS editor, make sure the "Start from scratch" radio button is selected. Then, you'll need to write the code for the sidebar, and you'll be on your way.

You could modify the skin you're currently using and use the "Pages" widget for your top navigation bar, but writing the CSS code to accomplish that can be somewhat tricky. It's totally doable, but I'd suggest you using the "No Stylesheet" option instead.

    HTH.

P.S. I would also recommend you switching to Sandbox-10; that's the newest version of Sandbox used here.

  16. Thanks devblog,

  17. devblog,
do you know what the code would look like if i wanted to start from scratch? or do you know what i will take to do the "pages widget" way that you suggested?
