Help for blind co-contributor to blog

    Hello,

    I just moved my blog here from blogger.com, and am rather pleased at what I see--but there's still a problem...

    One of the reasons I moved here is so a blind friend of mine can participate more fully in the blog. I was never able to make him an "official" contributor on Blogger. To my surprise, I could here, but he is still unable to use the Dashboard, particularly when creating a new post, or editing a post.

    He tells me he logged in and tried to cut and paste what he'd written into the post editing window. It either wouldn't paste or he couldn't get the editing window open--I'm not sure which.

    He uses software called JAWS that "reads" text off the screen, but what he gets is a confusing jumble when he goes to the Dashboard.

    If there are any visually impaired users here who use the same text-to-speech software, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could tell us if there's a way around this problem.

    Hm.. not good. Contact support about this. They should be back monday.

    (my not-so-educated guess would have something to do with the way the dashboard is coded - for reading programmes to be able to read the code in a sensible way, it must be strictly systemized. But your friend probably knows more about this than I).

    While you are waiting for support to open you could try the mobile interface at http://m.wordpress.com, which is a lo-fi version and may be more accessible.

    Me too. My blog is for Recording for The Blind & Dyslexic (I am Chairman). We definitely need better reader access here for my fellow board members.

    Hi Everybody.

    I hope you all are keeping well.
    I am sorry for responding to this topic only now, but let's see if I can help.

    I am blind and am using a screen reader, Jaws 7.0; however, the version of Jaws should not matter as I can find my way around WordPress quite ok-ish.
    So, here's my humble opinion.

    1. Once logged in, enter on the link that says write.
    2. Go to the link that says Post or Page, depending on what you're going to post about, and press enter on it.
    3. Once the page is loaded, you have to select the form field you wish to type in.
    4. To highlight all form fields, Press insert and f5.
    5. Navigate with your arrow keys until you hear your screen reader speak the following, [Title Edit].
    6. Press enter here, your screen reader should speak the following, [Forms Mode on].
    7. Go ahead and type your Title here.
    8. When you're done typing your Title, Press Num Pad Plus to exit Forms Mode on. You should hear your screen reader speak the following, [Forms Mode off].
    9. In order to type your post, do the following, Highlight all form fields by pressing insert and f5.
    10. Navigate with your arrow keys until you hear your screen reader speak the following, [Post Edit].
    11. Press enter here, your should hear your Screen reader speak the following, [Forms Mode on].
    12. Go ahead and type out your post.
    13. Once you're done with your post, Press Num Pad Plus in order to exit forms mode on, your screen reader should now have said, [Forms Mode off[.
    14. To publish your post, Press alt and the letter p.
    If all is well WordPress will notify you that your post had been published.
    Your screen reader will read this should the focus be on the text.

    a Bit of a mission, but doable.
