Help needed with new template Oxygen

  1. Talk about a stress machine.

Decided that I couldn't cope with the stress of setting up a website so set up another blog at least for now.

The template is Oxygen and it has three menus. Now call me stupid - I really don't care - I need to find out how to use this template.

I don't know who sets these things up but...

There are three menus - so presumably for prevention of confusion and ease of use, they ought to be named one, two and three. (Or would that make it far too easy?)

I don't quite understand why they are giving you the option to name them what you like instead of just auto-naming them one, two and three.

Then you see that there is a primary menu, a secondary menu and a tertiary menu - presumably that is referring to location? Or is it, because there is another tab for location?

For some reason I cannot fathom it is not possible to name the primary menu 'one', the secondary menu 'two' and the tertiary menu 'three'.

So I give up and move on to the widgets hoping for a breakthrough in understanding what is going on with the menus and put an image in the sidebar but it doesn't show up. I take out the search box and put it in the reserve park, but it's still there.

I go back to the menus hoping that by moving the location I can move the searchbar, move the post to the other side of the page, and perhaps even get the image to show up, but it seems there is no chance of any of it.

So after several tries in different sequences returning the same result I give up in despair and proceed in trepidation to post on forum spelling out the problem as best I can so that someone can have a go at me for being stupid. (Oh well whatever floats your boat.)

I would appreciate if someone would kindly please explain to me what WordPress.com haven't bothered to...

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is truthinreality.com.

  2. Oxygen is just about the most complicated theme we have. I'll flag this for staff to move to the themes forum. I suggest you read the threads on Oxygen there.

  3. Thank you.

  4. I'm moving the thread as requested.

In the meantime, you might find these resources useful.

    The Oxygen theme page: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/oxygen/

Forums posts about the Oxygen theme: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/oxygen

  5. I'm studying the Oxygen theme but it is extraordinarily complex and I can't seem to get a grip of why there are three menus named one two and three and they are primary, secondary and tertiary. Other things I can't work out either. When I look in the menus there is nothing there, it's all in the widgets, so do I actually need the menus?

Anyway the pressing question I have for the moment which I would be grateful for an answer is why when the blog is first entered is there a huge grey block over each post? I've tried swapping things around but as I am walking in unknown territory and nothing seems to work, I can't resolve that and I can only click around for hours on a few subjects at once, and at the moment I have many on which to click around for hours.

Can anyone please help just answer that one question?

  6. I get the message that I'm being blocked and ignored for whatever reasons so I will never post on your boards again.

  7. This blog is not wearing Oxygen http://truthinreality.com/
Please post the URL of the blog that is wearing the Oxygen theme.

  8. I get the message that I'm being blocked and ignored for whatever reasons so I will never post on your boards again.

if you were being blocked then how could we read what you post into any threads here?

You have been thread hopping and I have asked you for the blog URL of the blog wearing the Oxygen theme in 3 different threads now and you have failed to provide it.

  9. Obviously - blocked as to obtaining simple answers to simple and perfectly reasonable questions.

I really don't want to spend any more time on this forum as it is too stressful.

    Thanks.

  10. I can see why it would be stressful if you don't answer the questions we ask.

  11. @aliceharding

When I look in the menus there is nothing there, it's all in the widgets, so do I actually need the menus?

    Custom Menus
Oxygen supports up to three Custom Menus that can be configured by going to Appearance -> Menus:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

The Primary Menu appears below the Site Title
The Secondary Menu appears with a black background, just underneath the Primary Menu
The Tertiary Menu appears in the footer

Bottom line: If you do not create custom menus then there is no data that can be displayed in those custom menu locations.

We are here to help and I think the only stress you are experiencing is self-created. You seem to think that keeping the URL of this blog wearing Oxygen secret will magically result in specific assistance with it when that's not possible.

How difficult can it be to just post the URL? I have asked you three times for it and you still did not provide it. How do you expect to get help on these support forums if you do not provide what we need to help?

  12. When I look in the menus there is nothing there, it's all in the widgets, so do I actually need the menus?

Which widgets are you referring to and how can we comment on them if we cannot see them?

On this blog http://truthinreality.com/ you have a sidebar laded with links and have created a horrific set of footer widgets that result in a slow page loading time.

Your website is slower than 79% of all tested websites http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/dIsZMO/http://truthinreality.com/

Is it your intention to switch that blog them to the Oxygen theme and still keep all those widgets?

  13. I detected by reading between the lines of another thread that this was the URL of the blog wearing the Oxygen theme http://torcrosschapel.com/

  14. You are not correct in your statement that I kept the blog secret. Try searching for it and as far as I could make out, it shows up four times.

You have said before that the website is whatever percent slower than all tested websites, yet when I check with the speed tool I get a different number every time which I would think makes it pretty unreliable.

I do not want to change the format unless I get someone to do it for me as I need to get on with my life and setting up the new blog has taken over my life due to failure of help and support.

Once I WORK OUT HOW TO GET THE SHADING OFF THE STICKY POST ON TRUTHINREALITY which at present doesn't have a sticky post as I got fed up with seeing it like that, I can being to get back to a normal life where I am not constantly distressed by the failure of WordPress to answer two or three simple questions and apparently it appears to be very difficult to get someone who does know the answers to these questions that I have now asked dozens of times, here and elsewhere.

Once I have resolved these issues I will look for a real WordPress.com expert not a purported one who isn't, and hopefully something can be done about the speed of the site.

This forum is not for design contract work. This forum is for learning CSS and learning how to use the WordPress.com custom design tools such as the CSS editor so you can make changes on your own.

If you don't want to learn CSS, you can absolutely hire a designer to help you with your custom design work! Here is a form you can fill out if you are interested in that:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/customize-my-site/request-theme-customization/

If you want to stay here and learn, please slow down, ask one question at a time, and work through each question separately. This forum is here for helping you learn how to use the tools at WordPress.com, not to make changes to your blog for you. If you want someone to make changes to your blog for you, you should hire a consultant to help you.

Regarding the menu question in this thread, I see that timethief has answered you.

The other questions you asked have already been posted in other threads, and so I'm going to close this one since the original question was answered.
